If seen it but I can't find it - a thread about the NZ Magna CAI bolt-on.

Does anyone know if the New Zealand fitted CAI's have a noticeable benefit over factory ones or whether they are just a mod for models that didn't come out with CAI as standard ?
Thanks.

The NZ CAI you're thinking of is for the 380, not the magna ;).

No, hes thinking of the NZ developed CAI, apparantely gained 6kW from it. Its the same moulded piece thats sold by emtech. I reckon the average man with a bit of tube can do better.

i thought it was the pajero induction kit that could be fit to the magna

either way its only CAI, alot of u guys talk bout it as if its some big power mod

You will not notice much difference. You will notice better throttle response.

im very at ease lol

Just thought your post probably required a "ive noticed in lots of threads on here..."

I agree some people think a CAI does more than it really does, but this is still a legit question he is asking (albeit he got mixed up between 380 and magna). :)

I've seen them on ebay. It will be better than stock, but don't expect earth shattering results.

ahhh k

I still think though that your best bet is to do it DIY. Will be cheaper and most probably more effective.

I did have one on my car but after fitting headers I ended going back to the standard intake to restore air flow balance. I now get very good fuel economy, and better torque with my AWD with headers and standard intake.

But for the record as I work at the factory it was well documented around Mits that after 12 months of testing MMC NZ came up with this design that according to them made around 6kw. But bear in mind that NZ have different emission requirements that may/would give a different result in NZ to what we would see in Aus. With my experience yes it made it rev better but nothing earth shattering. I would save the $165 that Emtech want and do a DIY of something similar. The best part of this cai is that it keeps the air intake away from the headers/radiator.

PS, a smooth steady air flow is a MUST for the Karmen Vortex MAS. This will ensure accurate metering, and correct A/F ratio.

what i did for mine was, cut some off the pastic off were the original intake was connected(there is a small lip comming out, its hard to explain, but you will see it). i then screwed a pod filter addapter that i had kicking around and then just attached the pipe. i don't know the dimentions cos someone gave me the pipe and by dumb luck it fitted onto the addapter that i had. there is a pic of mine, you can sorta see how it is connected there
