Can anyone tell me where to find the TCU in an auto TP magna? It's a carby model if that makes any difference. I assume there is only a TCU and no ECU in the carby version. Is that correct.
I've got the centre panel under the dash opened up but can't see it.

Thanks. Without that info. , I would never have thought to look there. I haven't got to it yet - having trouble getting the centre panel and radio out. So far all I've found is a 10c piece.
Any idea what this is? I found it under the kick panel on the left side of the passenger footwell.

Looks like i fuel pump relay, also you don't have to pull everything out, its on the firewall at the back so just get rid of all the panels on either sides pull back the sound deadening

Thanks, I've got to it. The problem with getting the centre panel and radio console out was that the Haynes manual indicated the wrong screws to undo at the back of it under the centre console. It should be the inner pair of screws not the outer ones.
The reason for doing this was that I was going to swap the TCU with the one in my station wagon to see if that solved the transmission's reluctance to change up. However I am not sure that I want to do this a second time. My car interior looks like a bombsite!

just thought id mention that alot of the time these auto have problems from not being serviced.
so u might be surprized the change it makes to drain out the old tranny fluid and replace the internal filter ,o-ring and gasket.
plus if the level is low u can get flaring through the gears (likes to rev a bit more than it should and dosent like changing gears).
if i was u id check all the fuses, solenoids with a mutimeter then if thats all good then service it. and if it still hasn't improved id consider taking it to a specailist or swap it for another one.
everone seems to say that these auto's are weak or dodgy, but i think it's all down to how they get treated in there life time. my auto feels new but i service it every 10 000klms , so thats every second engine oil change in my tp.

Thanks for your advice. I may be just too picky. I took it for a test drive and, with the throttle held down, it shifts from 1st to 2nd at 4,500 rpm in Eco. mode and at 5,000 rpm in Power mode.
I couldn't check the 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th change points because they'd be way over the 60k speed limit here.
Normally I drive more sedately and expect it to change up much earlier if I'm not stomping on it. However, when they do happen, the changes are all quite smooth. It is just a matter of backing right off to get them to happen. The car has only 64,000k on it and otherwise drives like new.
The transmission on my TP wagon was a complete basket case when I bought it. I had it reconditioned by Doug from Torque Transmissions in Greenacre. He did a great job on it and now has his own business so I will ask him to give this one a service. It is definitely not bad enough to need swapping.

unleaded carby:
more than likely the ESS Controller. this operates the idle cut off solenoid so when your coasting to save a little bit of fuel and to prevent poisoning the cat converter.
Fuel pump relay sits under the dash somewhere.
Leaded Carby:
fan run-on controller. makes the radiator fans run on for 10 minutes after the car has been swicthed off if the bowl temperature is over 70 degrees.
