mate this has been covered many times before.
basically there is no cheap way to gain KW's
some basic mods include
CAI ( cold air intake ) $30 do a search.
Extractors $800
Exhaust $500
After this you will have gained appoximately 10-15fwkws maybe.

:stoopid:
totally agree
theres no such thing as a cheap mod with a high kw gain
want more power than expect to spend big dollars

Well there is cheap way to gain temporary power improvements if you only need it for a race. NOS. If you want permanent power improvements, then there isn't a cheap way.

even nos isnt cheap, my understanding is its about $800 installed for a decent setup,
oh and it gets even more costly when u use to much of the stuff and blow your engine up.

Yeh a god setup is around $850 for NOS, but yeh the Stuff does cost a lot to run and would only serve you well in the race department, other than that be prepared to spend thousands for big gains!!

Just get a $15k Monster Engine rebuild, take the spoiler off, take the badges off, take the flares off, change the grille and Tail lights..
People will call it a Exec but it will fly..:P

he's asking for cheap ways, not easiest and silliest way to waste money.
do what Ulciscor said with the exhaust and i suggest a piggyback ecu (approx 1200 installed and tuned)
there is no cheap way, but if u did exhasut and chip in one hit you would notice the gain bigtime! CAI will do sfa
There isnt a real cheap way, bu for 2,500 you could get a lot done and enjoy the gains
Cheap. Fast. Reliable. You can have any two you like :)
In all seriousness, if it's a TH onwards, have a look on mitsubishi club australia forums for the mod to advance your timing, pay for a dyno run to make sure your AFR is safe and you're not pinging and you'll get over 10hp at the wheels for less than $100. CAI is another popular one, the science behind it is a little questionable but the general consensus is that it's worth it. An aftermarket rear muffler will also help. You could probably get that all done and change out of $300 if you're lucky.

Yep I paid $20 for the thing, $50 for dyno time and 12hp gain at the wheels with no reliability loss and people who bag this product it's just the same what people do by advancing the dizzy, but it's tricked into doing so sort of thing cause u cant do it your self.

Sell the VRX. Buy a WRX.
Having said that, the order you would want to go for would be (prices are a guess)
Extractors + Cat + Exhaust $1000
Pod + CAI $300
Inlet Manifold $1000
Cams $400
Piggy back (G-reddy etc) $1300-1600
Realising you spent all that money and the WRX is still faster....priceless

and what happens when u go for a drive through the hills at different altitudes and ur car starts pinging .....
also ppl who disagree with me dont turn this into a **** fight, u have ur oppinion i have mine, would just hate to see someone mis guided into believing he can get cheap reliable power gains
b4 u do this mod do a search on AMC and look for what mitsiman had to say about it .. would not recomend it... if it sounds cheap and gimmiky my advice stay away..
im sure all the teenagers and early 20 somethings on the forums swear by the mod but all the ppl in position to know their stuff AKA mitsiman (owns rpw) warnsa ppl off this with good reasoning

I'm only playing devils advocate here (for the record - you wont see me touch any mod which is basically a resistor in a black box with a 20' pole), but people will argue that Mitsiman warns people off such products because he would much rather sell them $500+ piggyback ECU's which "do the same thing".
And to the person who said NOS isn't cheap power, it costs $850...........
Considering theres a magna on NOS here in Qld which has run a quicker 1/4 mile than my car to date for probably less than 1/10th the price...... I'm gonna say NOS is about the cheapest, most effective performance mod you can do. (reliability arguments aside)
*edit* - oh and no, octane boost won't do **** on a 3rd gen V6 because it isn't equipped with a knock sensor. Therefore no automatic advancing of timing based on (lack of) detonation.

lol yes true,
but i see many more risks using this than i think is worth the tiny gain in power :P
