hey,
I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on CSA Rims? they look ok but my mate keeps telling me they're made of lead  (I don't really believe him but you never know they could be)
Are they ok choice or rim manufacturer? What are other good manufacturers do people recommend?
Ps I'm looking at getting 17inch, 6 spoke rims on a TE :D

AFAIK they are fairly heavy, but there's no way around that. Light rims are pricy, and often the extra expence can't be justified. How much do the rims weigh? Anything over 10kg is getting pretty heavy...

whoever told you they were made of lead was a friggen idiot.
lead is one of the heaviest, but softest metals known.
for good mag wheels you want the opposite.
tough strong metal so they dont break.
and light so they dont negativitly effect your handling.
they are usually made of composite alloys.
with the expression of " Mag wheels " coming from the days when they made them out of a magnesium composite which was incredibly lightweight.........but also friggen flamable.
the heat generated by some disk brakes in race applications were setting the magnesium in the wheels off and subsequently your wheels became blobs of molten metal in the space of about 10 seconds.
Yep CSA's are made here in Oz.
If you want lightweight wheels....just shave as much metal off the rim as you can. This works well for weight reduction as less metal means less weight.

Magnesium wheels were an aluminium/magnesium alloy IIRC. Mg really isn't all that flammable. It is expensive (!), SOFT and reactive - corrosion was always an issue with these wheels, even water will react with Mg - as opposed to aluminium which forms a protective coating. (this is breached by sal water though - but thats another story)
Aluminium will also burn :) Given the right conditions.
Since we all call magnesium wheels Mags, what would you call Titanium wheels?! :D

Wheels made of lead used to be an expression used to describe wheels that were heavy and/or damaged easily.
Bit like tyres made of licorice.:)
