Hey just wondering if anyone can help....
Found this posted back 6 months ago for vic from toyo, it states -
TYRES
Overall Diameter
The overall diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than
15mm larger than the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the
vehicle and not more than 15mm smaller than the smallest diameter wheel and tyre
combination specified for the vehicle.
So if my VRX come with 225 on it is that saying that 240 is the max width?
I really want to run 245 but having a car which is insurable and roadworthy is far more important.
Apparently the Series 2 VRX and Ralliarts come with a diffrent arm so 245's don't cause any issues :doubt:

I know this probably doesn't help, but you would be better off going with a 235 tyre. You won't notice any diff going to 245 and the 235 will be a heap cheaper as it's more common.

No it is not saying that the width of the tyre can be no more than 15 mm wider as you are inferring, i.e 240 instead of 225.
It is saying that the overall diameter of the tyre and wheel assembly must be +/- 15mm from the original fitment.
This is to maintain speedo accuracy.
Go to the tyre calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
quick go gives 245/40/19 as the same diameter - odd size though!

The rule also says nothing about the tyre placard, but the largest combination OFFERED. TJ series 1 was 16x7, TJ series 2 were 17x7.
So anything TH backwards would only be able to go 7 inch wide.
*EDIT*
He has a vrx, so the placard will be accurate anyway. So yes, as long as those tyres came in under the 15mm rule, then you're laughing.

m4dog is right - i've been pulled up for my wheels a few times. Always disputed that regardless what the tyre placard says you can get 17" wheels standard on the vrx model so my wheels are legal then. Only one cops actually stil defected me after disputing it.

Thanks everyone for your help, I might just go another set of 18's
Anyways the rim im looking at has the following
5x114.4
offset +36
has a polished lip, very sleek and stylish
will fit Japanese 5 stud/FORD
Now I know it will fit but the off set is a bit low, what is the correct range for offset on a magna? Would that offset be legal? Damn it's all so confusing lol

Now you're getting into track width increases and stuff, hard to say without knowing exact numbers. But i think it would be safe to say that as long as the wheels don't stick out, or rub, then you'll be right. Would have to try them on first to find out.
Can't change the track by +- 25mm. So the offset can vary upto 12.5mm eachside.

I had the exact same tyre on my car for a while in vic (Check my Profile for Pic) :D It was illegal but I didn't give a ****, Just be sure that with the 245s that youll most definately have to upgrade the suspension arms if your car isnt a Sports or VRX model because they will rub against it..Ask Arcane about this issue because he replaced his. i bought smaller rims :)
As far as I know everything is illegal if it's not standard in Australia. In regards to Defects police always try to find out any reason to make the car defective. Imo. It's already ilegal if you put 19's anyway, well actually depend on your stock rim size.
