Hi, I have been looking to replace the cambelt and other bits on my '02 TJ and thought I'd try a bearing place in Brisbane that I used to use when I lived there. Prices down in Canberra seem a little exxy even for after-market. So if you don't mind using after-market parts then they may be worth checking out.
I was able to pick up a 'Timing Kit' for the 3.5 engine including the hydraulic tensioner for $275 through 'Bearing Traders' in Brisbane. It's just the normal price. Received the parts overnight ($12- freight) and the kit is made up of.
Kit Number - MC1080HT Kit.
Cambelt - Gates
Bearing - GMB (Japanese)
Bearing - Koyo (Japanese)
Seals - (x3) - NOK (Japanese)
Hydraulic Tensioner
Also picked up a powersteering belt 4PK900 (Gates) for $12~
I have got quotes to fit of around $400~ and I will be grabbing an aftermarket waterpump as well - GMB for $125 .
So for around $450 for parts I should be able to get away with the whole lot being replaced for under $900. Or If I wasn't so lazy it would cost me about $460 all up (incl. -coolant).

Nice. Let us know what your mechanic thinks about the quality.
I scored an ACL top end rebuild kit for $180 (normally $350+) from Repco 'coz one Rocker Cover seal was missing. And the guy threw in another seal for nothing! :D
My mechanic says ACL Monotorque make good seals but their Head Gaskets are crap. And looking through the kit, they are made of cardboard.
Mitsubishi Lash Adjusters are $32 each, but the parts guy told me to go to Bursons and buy the exact same thing for $8.

I am pretty sure they will be fine, the place I bought from is an engineering supplies place, not just an automotive parts place. These brands can't be any worse than whats on there already, 71000kms and rattle from water pump/tensioner. They sell top quality parts and always seem to have good deals, i.e. when I replaced the tensioners on my RB20DET 2 yrs ago, they sold me the tensioner for $65 (nissan $78) and the idler $70 (Nissan $248!) and they were either NTN or NSK. My dad was a fitter for 40 yrs so I have a reasonable idea which are the good brands of bits and can easily find out from him if I am unsure.

Replace the water pump already? how come?! hehe, should go electric and take the load off the engine, I saw Repco selling the Davies Craig for under $200? or around that mark anyway, that might have been on special.

A good reason to replace it is because of its location. You get to replace it while everything else is off the motor, for $125 odd dollars, or you could leave it, have it fail at say 160k kms, and then have to replace every thing again before they are due!!! It happened to me on my starwagon, what was ok at 100k, was leaking oil by 120k, and leaking coolant at 160k and broke the balancer belt at 162k. I was lucky that it didn't take out the timing belt at the same time!!!! The broken belt was caused from the oil leaking onto the belt from one of the oil seal that wasn't replaced
