Hi everyone..
I have just bought a TM 86 magna elite of a guy at work to use as a run around car. It is a 2.6L carby, 4 speed auto.
It is all in very good condition, and i am led to believe that the auto is rebuilt recently (but out of warranty)

PROB 1: car sometimes runs smoothly at idle, but then randomly will have bouts of hunting and near stalling, and will stall when you slow to stop at lights etc.

PROB 2: Auto won't change when flat stick, back off and it will change, this doesn't bother me, but still interested in why...

PROB 3: sometimes when flat stick, the car misses, i am sure this is related to prob 1...

If anyone knows of these as common problems and how to fix them, I would really like to know.. otherwise I will simply tackle them blind.

Cheers guys!

Isit carby or EFI.

Either way check your TPS switch.

It is a 2.6L carby, 4 speed auto.

what is the "TPS" switch, sorry but i have never worked on this magna before...

Any help would be great, cause I got this car for $300, and it has no dints, or rust, perfect interior, good sounding engine (it could reasonably be sold for around $2500-$3000) and i am keen to get it running sweeter to boot.

Cheers

Mitsiman, he said its carby, and also 86's didnt come with efi...

The TPS hes talking about is the Throttle position sensor, i have no idea where it is in a carby, maybe also the neutral safety switch?

If you havent got one, buy a gregories, will save your life!!

Also if it aint your TPS, it may be the float level in the carby, the gregories seems to preach that alot when talking about probs such as "engine misfires or cuts out at high speeds" its also last on the check list for "engine stalls at idle speed"

Hope this helps

Also for your issues with the not changing gears etc - check the auto trans fluid - if it is starting to get low or dirty it will have issues changing
