Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the TE and TF models? Was it just a very minor upgrade, like software or something?

Is there any way to tell them apart cosmetically i.e. the outside of the car?

also TF had boot release and a lock/unlock button instead of a 1 button does all remote.
I think some TE's may have missed out on central locking all together .

And Executive/Altera/Solara etc was a sticker on the boot on the TF and a badge on the TE.

TF also got airbag on passenger side, unsure if all models got it though.

Nope, TF to TH i think. My dads TF has the brake light on the parcel shelf.

Well it certainly wasn't standard in the exec, I don't have one in mine... :(

And yeah the brake light is on the parcel shelf.

So I guess the most obvious difference is the cup holders... interesting.

While we're on the "what's the difference" thing...

What's the difference between the TW & TW Series II? I've got the Series II, and I've noticed that some of the 'non branded' ones are a bit shorter in the rear. What other differences are there?

I think you'll find that there is no TW Series 1. Mitsubishi put a Series II Badge on the TL facelift and called it the TW.

Well the transmition in the TF were smoother a fair bit smoother actually and they had a bit more poke even though they had the same power they updated the ecu.

ECU's get upgraded each year but not as means of giving there more POKE (not all the time), it just depends on what else has been introduced or changed from the previous model.
EG : the introduction of the sports shift meant an ECU upgrade
even a transmission change means the ECU data is changed.
The deletion of the knock sensor meant a ECU data change.

It is amazing how many ECU's are changed and for what reasons.
AWD (no change since 2003), Ralliart, speedo, immobilizer etc
