View Full Version : Cupholders? Is it just me?

Is it just me or does anybody else use there cup holders to store everything and anything besides cups?
I went to a wreckers and found me a console out of a TJ and put it in my KE, and since have always had it filled with crap (lighters, keys, memory stick, smokes, receipts etc) and not once have I actually used it to hold a cup, cups usually go in the coin holder bit beside the handbrake, and I move my wallet (which is usually in coin holder) to.....you guessed it.....the cup holder.
Just thought it was strange and wondered if I was the only one.

I use them to hold my sunnies... If I do get a drink it is so much easier to have it closer to the handbrake/console but I may sumtimes put it in a cupholder.

As in if it was the case of buying a bucket of chips that bucket then would become my midget sized rubbish bin until the time comes when the rubbish bin is full and needs to be emptied.
i only put drinks im mine :D

I find it amusing that us TE/KE owners go to the effort of finding the cup holders, just to go and use them for everything but :)
Got this little billabong zipper bag thing with all shrapnel in it plus garage key. Can't seem to put a drink in the left one because you punch it when you put it into 1st

I only use it for refreshments.:D They are in the best spot though. I mean, some cars like my mums camry have them up next to the handbrake so you can't rest your arm on the console lid without fouling your arm on the drink straws. I also find it the Magna cupholders very ergonomically friendly for placing drinks into when going through drive-thru. It just seems like one effortless transition from drive-thru attendant, to me, to cupholder.

i filled mine with jellybeans :D but before that i had occasionally used it for drinks and change, when there is change in it and i get a drink then well the drink goes ontop of the change lol

I never appreciated how much I use the cup holders on the TJ until
my wife took it interstate a few weeks ago to visit her relloes.
So I am doing long trips in the KR......no cup holders! Last Saturday
I went to the nearest decent town (for shopping) 140k each way...by
the time I got there half of my coffee was down the front of my shirt
and I looked like someone who's address is a bench in the local park!
The roads not being super smooth had something to do with it, too.
On the way back I remember looking at the console area wondering if
I could somehow instal a couple of cup holders somewhere.....
In the TJ they always have something in them. They get turfed though
for drinks and coffee!

Another thing, the little recess in front of the console lid and behind the gear selector is a good place to put large KFC chips so you can eat and drive.:)

There is one single redeeming feature that my Magna has, that NONE of mates cars have.
It sends them all insanely jealous, so much so that I'm pretty sure some of them are trying to kill me...
The Magna has SQUARE CUP HOLDERS.
For flavoured milk! Perhaps even the occasional OJ.
****ING GENIOUS!!!

Yep, what do ya wanna bet the design team had gone through a lot of late nights with FU Iced Coffee before coming up with THAT little gem of an idea!
My mates get jealous too that I can have my FUIC without having to balance it between my legs during inner-city gear shifting.

They kind of have a platform where square drinks would rest, then there is a recess where regular drinks would go, you can kind of see it in this picture...

I love the storage space in my Magna. I don't even need to put anything inside the flip-open centre console... although I do keep an air freshener sealed in there, and when someone farts I open it up briefly to kill the smell.

I may have a different shaped console, but has anyone else thought of or experienced hitting the drinks in the holder when changing gears (manual)? Primary reason why I never looked around for a holder. I just have a shallow rectangular depression.

love my cupholders, lots of driving for work some days an sometimes in a BA Ute, goddam the 'cupholders' in that thing suck. only problem i have for magnas are pump bottles and powerade bottles. Pump is too bulbous n fat n usually sits on the passanger seat, powerade gets to sit in the cupholders but it can be tears if i take a corner to fast! they are just that little bit too thin. Thank the lord that mitsu designed the cupholders to suit 600ml milks! its perfect and ppl get jealous of my cupholders :)
i got a phone charger in my cig lighter so the cupholder underneath that gets used for coins, lighters, bottle lids and sometimes phone, the coin holder gets used for smokes, lighters, chewing gum and coins

Early cars had that, later cars (TH, TJ?) had cupholders there.
Go to wreckers and buy the plastic panel for retrofit your earlier model.
Don't buy TL/TW, they have a whole different console.

The cupholders are bloody annoying, because they're not deep enough to hold a drink without it going ass over every time you go around a corner...
Or maybe it's just my rally driving :P
I use the little space in the centre console near the handbrake instead, cos it's deeper. Also perfect size to put a carton of small red rooster chippies in lol

My mate is absolutely amazed at my cup holders. On the long drive up from vic to the gold coast, he was putting in big maccas cups, big m's, 600ml cokes, cans etc. He thought they were genious.

Front cup holders usually store both phones and keys. Rear cupholders are great for storing the toddler's water bottle, which he puts in himself. Being a KJ2 wagon there is no storage space for little things.

For the first time today I had the privelege of placing a FUIC in the cupholder.
It sits so well... there is a slight interference fit for it... means it doesn't tip when cornering/braking/accelerating etc.
GENIOUS!

Square pegs dont fit in round holes!!!!!!
I think the best bit about our cupholders is that someone was smart enough to design them to hold the square flavoured milk cartons as well as round cans/bottles.

gotta say, they are perfect, skittles travel pack and 600ml drink for long drives, but 600ml drink fits so perfect its just teh right tightness you can open it in the cup holder and it doesnt spin around, i have trouble occasionally with 3rd if im hammering the car, but around the city when im hammering the car it got everything but drinks, change goes in the ash tray. can fit over $50 in there easy
