My girlfriend bought me this ralliart gear knob for an auto. Looks great, aluminium and chrome. But the problem is when i went to put it on it sat too high to screw on to the metal base of the lever.
I was wondering if i cut the plastic rod that the button pushes on, would that ruin anything on the car or void the warranty or is there another way to get it on or another way to shorten that plastic rod?
that's one ugly picture :D

its fine to cut that plastic knob bro. Just dont cut it to low. But remember when u cut it the stock shifter wont go bak on.
But it looks alot nicer with it choped and an after market one on there.
If u wanna make it look extra kool with a sprinkeling of RICE...get a manual gearboot. Whack that on...YES IT FITS...looks a treat.

Cool... the gearboot thing sounds very tempting! Can someone post a pic of this done? Does it fit round the entire auto bezel thingy or what?
I intend to get this auto knob if they still sell it.. should look awesome with a gear boot :D

generally for the warranty, modifying only puts things out of warranty that are in the same system as it or if that part can be seen to have caused whatever the problem, i.e. putting in better cams or something like that voids the warranty for the engine and probably gearbox, but would not be affected if a lower control arm gave out for no reason. if you changed the suspension, you'd still have the warranty on the engine/drivetrain... etc etc. unless you use it for motorsport and then theres no warranty at all.
That manual gear boot looks kewl and after driving to QLD and getting chrome reflection from the gear selector cover i wouldnt mind putting a black leather boot on BUT! how hard is it to install ?
do i have to remove the centre around the selector plate ? can i leave the selector place there and just put it over or does it look beter with it removed .
perhaps if someone could write a quick install list and then we can add that to the FAQ :)

Hi THE SANDMAN i actually found the knob that you are after on ebay, It is a really sexy looking knob. i think so anyway. $68.95 US dollars, and at the moment that is roughly $88 AUD. I love the Dollar at the moment its great,
So for probably around the $110 AUD mark delivered. Not bad i think.
