Hey

I'm selling the magna (finally...after a coupla weeks on carsales). Anyhows, i'm leaving the mp3 headunit in there, as well as my beautifully sound deadedned doors and speakers. The doors have stinger exper roadkill sound deadening, phoenix gold octane-r 6.5" splits, custom made waterpfoofed mdf mounts.

Its a shame really, I only recently got it tuned almost perfectly (can hear it vverryy far away) staging and all....oh well.

In the boot are two phoenix gold qx400.3 and qx900.1d amps and a DD2515. These items I will remove and put into my room. I have an oldschool chunky ass sony amp powering some wall mounted speakers, so I'll just use the monoblock and dd2515 sub.

Problem is finding a suitable 12V source. I won't buy a 12V power supply thingy coz chances are it won't produce enough current and will be a rip off. Oh, finding somewhere to put the box will also be a problem lol Its big. I have a pentium 133 PC with the power supply in tact. Would it be possible to use it as a battery charger? Seems a bit unsafe. If i use the power supply by itself it won't produce enough current.

My thoughts are to use the battery (typical garden variety lead acid battery) I have sitting on the garage floor (enough to turn over the magna a coupla times, but not enough to start) and buy a battery charger. What will happen is I'll leave the battery charger on 24/7 charging the battery. I'll have to vent the batttery to somehwere outside the room through the window or something. This is so I don't die from toxic fumes and so my room doesn't suddenly explode one day. i'll do this through a coupla PC fans. I'll just hook up power cables and a simple remote switch, and RCA's and hopefully I'll get the same bass I did in my car...might adjust the gains somehow.

ANy of u people have intelligent thoughts on running car audio in a house?

it may work but you'll probable destroy the battery in a few days, a twenty amp smart charger should only set ya back $500ish

The amp puts out 1200wrms of Phoenix Gold sub powah...so the jaycar thingy won't work.

Would a car charger thing from supercheap or something won't kill the battery as fast as a computer PSU?

I was running my mp3 deck off the spare floppy power cable from my PC. Worked fine but i was only using it for the radio and had it connected to my line input through the RCA's.

I dont think a PC PCU would work well for an amp. You might be able to pick up an old home amp from cashies or something to run your subs.

Sounds like you need to move out of your folks house.

Go and ask the car audio stores what they use for their displays. They certainly have some car audio gear running off them.

nahhhh, can't afford it. Full time uni student, work part time in retail. I'll move out when I am damn well ready.

most car audio stores will have massive 240-12v ur looking at above $1k to get something reasonable.

If you must go with batteries, i would keep them outside... We power a lot of our backyard off deep cycles.. (lights/ciggarette lighters etc)

We use a 12v solar panel to charge it and you can do it for free :) Ours is mounted discreetly to the fence and gets sun all day.

They trickle charge. But the bigger the battery the longer ul be able to crank tunes for...

At the end of the day, ur prob better off selling it and getting home audio gear.

I agree with that, I have run sony 6x9's and other misc speakers off home stereo's and none sound as good as proper home theatre gear.

Why not just put it in your new car? Or sell it all off to spend a big night out on the town...

Yeah, dunno if i'll keep it or not. If i sell it, it means I'll have to get out and buy a new stereo once i get a new car. I was thinking I should just keep it, and install it in my car once i get it...which will be like next year or something.

I don't have electricity in my shed and i was thinking of buying a couple of those solar charges and connecting them to a spare car battery in the shed then connecting some low wattage globes to them.

So during night when i need to go to the shed, i have light and during the day, they are getting nicely charged :)
