hey guys,
big issue with my front passanger window. It made this wierd sound on the way down the other day and when i went to put it back up it wouldnt budge! We pulled it all apart today to see that a plastic bracket had broken making the wire loose. The wire then got tangled around the pulley off the electric motor and bent parts of the wire.
now i really think this job could be out of my league so who would be best to repair it? Normal mechanic or i dread to say send it back to mitsubishi?

I ment the lifting cable, not an electrical wire. sorry

Never had a broken power window in any of my magnas (touches wooden piece of furniture), but in other cars I've owned, when a plastic guide / pulley breaks making the cable go slack / fray etc etc - it's time for a whole new power window assembly.
Mitsubishi will be able to sell you a brand new power window assembly, but I've found some places sell "reconditioned" power window assemblies on an exchange basis for about half the price of the OEM version. Anyway - if you've already pulled the door apart to identify the problem - then replacing the entire window assembly isn't much harder.
If you do it yourself, I reckon you can get away with it for about $150 + exchange surance if you can find a re-co'd unit, or about $250+ for a brand new Mitsubishi unit supplied. Thats based on my experience with ford power window assemblies.

I'd try ringing some wreckers in your area and specifically asking if they supply re-co'd units, or can point you in the direction of somewhere that does sell them.
The place I used to get them from for my old fairlane (stop laughing) was called ABC auto spares, which was a wreckers with a retail spares department.

Yep Tanyas car did this last week..
Had a look and it and the plastic thinks where brocken.. i thought oh no..!!
anyway. undid the cables from the glass and pushed the glass up then wedged a stick under the glass to hold it up till i could fix it..
a place in Moore bank called electic life gave me a new complete power window regulator for $160 exchange for the old one.. Took 10mins to get the old one out.. its only 8 screws and it falls out.. took me 30mins to get it all back in and finished.. they gave me a year warranty on the new regulator too..:)
Call me if you need help mate.. easy and ill give you there number..:)
Do it yourself.. its easy..

Ta This is not out of you're league, i had the EXACT same problem with my drivers window. The design of the regulator and associated bits and pieces has changed from when your car was new and none of the old parts are compatible with the new. There was a flaw in the design. If you're going to go the way I went and get all new then there will be a few hundred dollars involved. If you go second hand from a wreckers or reco then in all likelyhood you will get the old design gear. I am not trying to sway you one way or the other but I had none of this info when I started looking to fix mine.
In any case, please do it yourself, Ego's estimates of 30 minutes to change over are spot on.

i had this problem as well 3 TIMES ! Drivers went I paid $60 for the regulator then $50 to fit.
then the passenger side went 6 months later I paid about $200 for the regulator and another $50 to fit it ! then about a year later the drivers side went again ! Couldnt believe it ! I called mistu they said the window regulators had been Revised ! i could only buy a full kit including new motor & brackets & regulator ect.. $360 !!! then $80 to fit all the gear ! this was all being fitted by my local Auto Elec mistsu wanted heaps more to fit them !
So as a result I hate my power windows ! I wish i dident have them !
I was looking at fitting them myself but it appears I have Big Hands and they dont help me much in the squishy door cavity & the door ends up cutting my hands and wrists and i look like i had attempted suicide haha
anyway thats my Rant about my windows ! I hope no one else has the bad window luck I had !

Ouch, from reading all these $$ values, I'm hoping my problem doesn't cost too much. Mine all work fine, but the drivers side button is very hard to get to work, mostly putting window down, have to give it a hard whack to get it to operate. Does anyone know if the one button can be replaced or repaired? Or if it's better to get a new assembly

Mitsu did recall this problem in the TH and TJ cars. I heard if your car is still out of warranty and because it was a recall you can get it fixed for free, Dont take my word for it but check it out first b4 handing any $$$$ into anyones hand.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Same window, same broken plastic clippy thing, same cable coming loose and jamming my window half open. Was a nice drive back from Tenterfield to Newie with window half open and rain coming in
I wish I had read this thread before I took it along to local Mitsu dealer. They are replacing it at $275 plus labour. They've had to order it in so the car is sleeping over. I will call them first thing and ask about the recall issue, and also ask about the newer assembly to overcome the problem. Be buggered if I'm paying all that cash to have it fail again in 6 months
cheers

There was no recall on the regulator assembly. Apparently it was on some clip. The replacement unit cost me $277 plus $208 labour. Atleast they gave me 12 mths warranty on the part.
Next time I do it myself !!
