Just picked up a 3rd gen steering wheel for $25 from a wreckers, from maybe a TE (front of car was missing), non-airbag, non-cruise, non-audio. However, I just noticed that the top arc of padding isn't bonded with the metal, ie. it twists around in your hands, when it is supposed to stay solidly in place.

So, any way of fixing this? Get a syringe and inject a glue of some sort?

I recall coming across a thread about a guy who strips stock steering wheels back to the metal and pretties them up, but couldn't bring it up in searching; anyone done this type of thing? I'm thinking the metal would be too small a diameter to give a nice feel? Not to mention heating up when left in the sun. But it might look good if these factors can be negated...?

That might work using a contact cement glue.

I just bought a Magna TP with a steering wheel like that. It bothers me because it could be dangerous in some situations similar to hands slipping on the wheel.

I've been looking at aftermarket steering wheel covers but these days they all seem to be just a stretch fit. If anything that might be worse. I remember years ago my brother had a genuine leather steering wheel cover which was "lace-on". There's no way it would move and it looked and felt good too.

this is pretty much spot on, on what they do, i think they use sika (spelling?) flex type glue,

Also should point out that have the steering wheel like this is deemed unroadworthy
