have $1000 to spend on car audio. (got tax back) have blaupunkt 600watt amp running a dual voice coil 1000w farenheit sub already.anyone think this is too small for a verada boot?i had it in a tuned box at one stage and it made my eyes rattle. mind you it was right behind the seat in my ute. it pumps pretty hard though.

looking in the direction of a pioneer deh-6850 for a head unit. can get these for about $400. basically that leaves me $600 for wiring, splits and some fills in the back.

any suggestions?? open to anything on any part of the system.

sweet budget there...
only thin i can really comment on is the h/u though... ive had that one installed in my car for about 2 months now and its freaking osrm h/u. Easy to use but i find that the rotar nob in the middle is a bit un ergonomic for the driver so i tend to use the romte to switch between songs...

but apart from that, bright display, makes the stockies pump nice and hard...

what are u into? SQ system? boomy 15" sub which u can hear from 1km away, Sat Nav/DVD multimdedia system?

do u not have an aftermarket headunit atm? if not get a new headunit
then spend the rest on splits (300), new amp for sub (monoblock of some kind...(500) and the rest on wiring. use ur current blaupunkt amp (2ch? 4ch?) for the splits....oh, as for rear fill, don't worry about them or get some $30 6x9s.

With $1000 to spend, you can afford to get some bigger bits that you can then add to as you save the money.

I'd suggest looking at the JVC HU's, you get alot more for your money. Well built too - RMA rates are very low according to a JB Hifi manager I know.

Just make sure you get a 3x RCA out (front, rear & Sub) unit as it makes wiring with amplifiers a heap easier later on.

I'd be looking towards a 4x100WRMS amp that you can power your fronts & rears with. The Jaycar ones are quite fine and should do the job nicely.

I'd then be looking at some decent splits - I prefer Hertz HSK165's (Around $350) for the banging bass out of them, but there are others that are quite good - especially Focals which are more balanced but cost a bit more. Anything in the $200-$230 range is going to be a massive improvement over your stockies you have now. The JBL's you get at strathies are quite good at this price point.

Just make sure you deaden your doors and make a nice solid mount of MDF. There are other thread on here, s_tim_ulate's threads are the bible. Follow what he does and you should be sweet.

After that - cheap set of 6x9's like pioneer or Clarion or JBL. Autobarn have on special from time to time - about $140-160. You don't need to run them hard... just a bit of fill for the rear passengers.

Your sub will definitely be lacking after such upgrades, but get all those upgrades done and we will see what you get. You will be forever upgrading now :)

went out "looking" today and came across a few things. splits i've come down to JL audio for $318 at JB hifi and MTX for $280 at WOW superstore.

2 x alpine type S 12 inch in a box for $599 also there was 2 x kicker 12 inch boxed at 300w RMS $469.

KAC-8152 1100W amp for $399.

JL audio 300w RMS sub in the bargain bin at JB's for $438 boxed.

looking for clarity more so than SPL. what do you guys think about that stuff??

Will fit a basic carputer for $1000 if you already have an amp.

He managed to fit a small computer (with a 80GB HDD) into his car dash. Check out his signature.

I will be very interested in one of these magnaputers in the coming months also! :D

I have Focal 165A splits, as MitsiMonsta said, they are a lot more balanced, not as loud as the Hertz's but clearer all around. They cost about $US300-$US400, look on ebay, you may be able to pick them up for $AU150 if you look hard.

Great, clear sound, and with my amp, still go loud enough for the foreshore carpark. :D

This is them, for wholesale in Hong Kong. Get em' while they're cheap ;)

beware of cheap imitations over ebay...

My advice... First spend money on front splits that you like. Then headunit, install, amps, wiring. Finally rear fill.

Well I didn't get mine of ebay, so buyer beware I guess.... Just report it to ebay if it isn't the real thing, because thats what thye advertise.

just got myself the DEH-P7850BT head unit and JL audio 2 way components for $500. the splits dont have a cross over. just extra plug ins on the mid woofer. read that they are quite clear and pretty good. anyone know about these?

Well,

As far as I know, you might better get the DEH6850 than the 7850BT, unless if you like to connect your phone and HU. Otherwise, from sound perspective, 6850 might be better buying.

The JL split sounds reasonably ok, more into bassy sound, but clarity is still acceptable.

Get yourself a kicker comp (Black & yellow) sub at JB, it is quite cheap and the sound is reasonably ok for SQ system.

Take a small amp (2ch) or a decent 2nd hand mono amp to power the sub.

One 12" will do the job, and it will keep your budget down.

This is only my 2cent comments.

Cheers

is there a sound difference? thought the upper end model would be a little bit better sound quality. bugger. had the chanc to buy a 6850 for $300 just then. bought the 7850 instead. that sucks the big one indeed

Listening through JL splits you may not notice any difference in headunits. The biggest factor in how your system sounds will always be your front splits.

Everything else is secondary.

I didnt know the Jl's didnt come with a proper passive crossover. This means they are just using a simple 6db/oct inline filter and the mids are probably running full range. (dodgy)

End of the day you get what you pay for.

Try going second hand. Worked for me.

Alternatively buy some vifa Xt25's for $80. Awesome tweeters for the price. And some mids to match.

yeah those JL's are a passive tweeter. really wanna get something nice in the front end. might have to sell them i think. they are $200 retail. any takers? hahaha. have a bit of a thing for MTX splits. they were pretty damn good.

ok. all good to go. ended up with a W3 JL audio 12 inch 300w RMS sub in a tuned box for $400. got pioneer 3 way 6x9's for $80. pioneer 7850 head unit and jl audio splits for $500. all under $1000. just have to spend on install now. anyone know any decent installers in brisbane? has to be a registered place so as not to void my warranty. cheers for any help you can swing my way guys.

got eh sub and amp installed today. holy ****!!!! that 1 JL 12" is freakin awesome. i had it firing directly into the cabin and it was pretty crap so i shut the split in the back seat and faced it towards the rear of the car and WHAMMO! damn thing nearly made me sick. now to do the splits...... will be a little while on that front becuase i am moving soon and i havent really found what i'm looking for.

all up the system has cost me $1100. for that i got the 1 x pioneer 7850 $350 (s/h).1 x 12" JL W3 300wRMS in factory tuned box $400 (ex demo stock from JB's) 1 x 8g amp wiring kit $99. pioneer 260watt 3 way 6 x 9's $80 (on sale at JB's) already had the amp and the installs were $90 each for amp and head unit (not confident enough to do it myself).

all in all it freakin cranks and i'm pretty happy with it. next is a 4 channel and a decent set of splits and i'll be set.
