Hey, the Power Steering belt in the mrs KR is slipping and making one hell of a racket at full lock, quick question, do I need to tighten or loosen the belt?

May sound silly but want to be sure. Its a new belt if it helps.

Tell your mrs not to fully lock the steering. Its a bad thing to do on cars with power
steering which results in busted steering pump.

Excuse my ignorance, but why? I would have thought the manufacturer would have already thought of this and stopped you from going full lock (well more full than the current full lock, lol that makes no sense).
It'd be like saying, don't rev your car above 5000 because the timing belt slips. It shouldn't do it.
As for the problem, is the belt worn out at all? may need replacing or just tightening.

ok so theres a bit of oil on the pulley, so looks like ill have to put another belt on there.

whats the best idea for cleaning P/S fluid off pulley?

I'd be investigating why there is oil on the belt, the power steering pump could be leaking.

When we disconnnected the P/S on the weekend some fluid leaked out of the hose.

Thats why they invented the rev limiter. As for why they didn't limit the steering, don't
know, but I have been told by numerous mechanics not to do it, especially not keeping it
fully locked for prolonged amount of time, say waiting to do a u-turn. They all say to turn
it till it is fully locked and then release it slightly. There isn't a lot of difference in terms of
wheel direction with a couple of degrees change in steering wheel direction.

Ahhh keep it prolonged on lock makes more sense as you're probably overheating the pump or whatever :). I thought you meant just never put it on full lock, which sucks as our turning circle is bad enough :P. And yeh, i never hold it on full lock when waiting to do a u turn, dont know why, just a habit i picked up from somewhere.

When you put it on lock and hold it there, you could actually hear the pump struggling.

I just tightened the belt real tight (still a copule of mm movement in it tho) and seems to be OK

but yes, when on full lock you can hear the pump struggle a little.

Full lock requires maximum pressure from the P.S. pump. Leave it on full lock and rev the engine is one way to check your P.S. for leaks - might also cause them.
As a general rule use full lock as little as possible.
