Has anyone done this themselves?, if so, what have you used and is it easy to do?
my boot rattles like hell and starting to peeve me off.
Alternatively, how much roughly will it cost to get done at an audio shop??
thanks

Very easy - best to use is Dynamat. Currently Megatron is selling it off for $120 per trunk kit. Believe he has 3 or 4 left. See our sponsors. Also, do a search - been MANY threads with pics.

what car do you have? if its a gen3, youll wanna remove the plastic garnish on the back of the boot and sound deaden behind that, then put it back on, and fully sound deaden the inside of the boot.. with the option of using expanding foam or silicone in the hollow ribs to further strengthen the lid and really stop those rattles :)

it isnt a hard process to sound deaden.. especially the boot lid, easiest bit of the car :) just make sure you clean the surface thoroughly with a sugar soap or grease and wax remover prior to laying the sound deadening.. dynamat comes with instructions that are pretty simply to follow.

good luck,
Damon

yea tar deadener is really nasty stuff.. i'd never, ever recommend anyone using it for the inside of a car, only the underside of the body, wheel arches etc.

And actually use a roller huh Dee:badgrin:

Stinger roadkill from jb's for the 5 sheet pack can be picked up cheaply. Just buy the roller from Bunning's etc for 5 bucks and you'll be doing everyone else's boot within months (trust me)

thay're located in with the decopage (sp) supplied, gold leaf brushes etc. Normally nylon or a solid black rubber construction, if not the paint brush section in the paint department.

If all else fails, a cheap tip: 40mm foam sponge paint roller soaked in apoxy resin etc to harden it. They're easy to find!

the ones in the paint section were either way too big, or too fmilsy, i was going to buy a small foam roller and machine a wooden roller for it, but the frame of it was way too weak and wouldnt come close to standing up to the pressure needed to lay dynamat.

i just used the butt of a stanley screwdriver (big and round), and pushed hard, it doesnt turn out as pretty as rolling, but damn does it do a good, controlled job of pressing it down :) especially on small curves like on a bootlid and inside a door.
