hey all, got a question. we all know about that little fuel light that comes on. my book manual thing says it comes on when there is (approx) 8Litres left in the tank... However...
mine comes on just above the Empty line on the fuel gauge, so like any normal person i go and refuel next chance i get. this is where it gets weird. from what i know, our 2nd gens have a 64 Litre tank, correct? but when i refuel, the bowser stops after its put in on average 45litres in the tank. assuming i have a 64 litre tank that means it comes on wheni have approx 19 litres left.........
is our tank 64L OR is my fuel light retarded? im asuming the latter but i wanna check anyway.
i could b gettin heaps more Ks of the tank if this is the case.
cheers

Well i guess your fuel light is weird
If you have worked out you have 19L left, its safe to say you can do another 100km's and be safe

all it means is you have to fill up a bit more often
You wont get better economy or anything

tank capacity is 64 litres but the fuel pump wouldnt pick up the bottom bit remember so the fuel light would come on wen u have 8l of useable fuel left. and you would never completely fill the tank either

mine is the same ive worked out how to see if it works or not

get a 5lts can of petrol drive the car till it runs out hit the trip button put the 5lts in it drive to a servo and put 45lts in so u have a total of 50lts on a trip switch then u can see what km/lt u get :-)

btw my tank is the same i only ever get to put about $40-50 in and that fills it and the guage says its almost empty

Erm, or don't run out, simply fill up, reset trip, drive, fill up again, and see how many litres it took to go however many k's you just drove...

That's why the "how many k's do you get from a tank" debate is bogus, as noone ever drives a full tank. K's per litre or litres per 100k's is a much more accurate comparison.

My standard fill is about 45litres, and supposedly the wagon has a 72litre tank. Personally, I don't want to push it to find out. You're still using the same amount of petrol, just the spacing between fills is different.

but with what im saying you have an accurate guide on how many ltrs you have

filling the car and doing 100kms wont tell you how much petrol you have used

??

Learn to use some logic.

Full car. 100kms. Fill up. kms / litres.

i've run mine down to the needle being flat down asif the car is dead empty, filled it up and only 49 litres went in i was like hmmm...

other times the petrol light has been on for 30ish km i fill up and its full at 40-45 litres.

Least we know if we ever get in trouble there is plenty of fuel in the tank just in case :)

I'd say its faulty fuel guage and light. Granted I have a TP Magna, but the fuel gauge is never accurate. Its only on about 3/4 when full. Its possible that the TR/TS Magna has a similar problem. The most I've ever put in the fuel tank is 58L, but I knew she was pretty low.

When they say you have a 64L fuel tank, it means you can use up to 64L of fuel (assuming you have a full tank) before the engine is dead. I have heard someone filling up with 65L, they only just made it to the petrol station and it konked out. Don't know whether that was more a dodgy pump you hear about (apparently many of them over-read, not suprising!), or whether it was because the tank was bone dry and the extra 1L was in the fuel filler hose.

The TE Magna onwards seem to have a pretty accurate fuel gauge, so they obviously fixed the problem.
