Hey,
Just wondering if I bought a over sea's model of a Eclipse AVN5435, would the radio work here?

You need to find out the frequency range and steps.

http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/images/spec.gif

there is the info of this product.

Edit, just found this on a web site:

The following are some frequency allocations used in Australia:

AM broadcast 531 kHz … 1602 kHz in 9 kHz steps

AM narrowcast 1611, 1620, 1629, 1638 up to 1701 kHz approx

FM narrowcast 87.5 – 87.9 MHz approx

FM broadcast 88.1 … 107.7 MHz in 200 kHz steps

But it all means dbl dutch to me.

what you're looking for is the AM frequency step (which says it's 10kHz). in Australia we use 9kHz steps, so, unless it's changeable, you won't be able to listen to most AM stations here. other than that, the FM should be the same and obviously cds will play. I'm going to assume it's a DVD head unit, so you'll have to do some digging to see if the region coding is changeable and if it will display PAL dvds.

I will see if I can dig up any more info on the dvd front.

if he's not lying (or being selective, because stations that are on the 10s will work), then the AM stepping must be changeable.

what does he say about the sat nav (do the Aust. maps work?) / dvd region coding / NTSC vs PAL playback?

he says that, NAV works (with the australian DVD he bought), DVD playback with PAL/NTSC works and TV works aswell.. for $500 (which is why im a bit uneasy(but he does sound genuin))

I can't find anything to contradict him. $500 is *really* cheap for this head unit. they're listing at Crutchfield for $1200 US (which is about half what they cost here new).

your call.

EDIT: hold the phone... dl'ing the user manual now. 80MB, so it may take a little while.

the user manual (http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/099/099AVN5435.PDF) states that only Region 1 or ALL region dvds will play in the US AVN5435.

I would be very careful buying this. try to get him to agree to refund if it doesn't do everything he claims it does.

cheers,
.wook

EDIT: if it does work, please post about it... I have relatives in the US who could ship me one of these.

yeah $500 for one of these units just seems too cheap. if he was legit he'd be asking atleast $1k surely :doubt: ur choice i guess, but with a unit like this i'd prefer the aussie model with a warranty ;)

Found out it is a she,
update: she basically says that I can get my money back if it doesnt work. $500 isnt too much of a bother to me, if I loose it, I will be mighty pissed and will try to get the money back. But for $500 when the retail costs $4k.. i had to take a chance.. plus i have their banking details.

Yes it will work!

All you need is a little diversity plug. costs like $15. The stations will all work then!

We fit these at work all the time when people come in with imported skylines and want to keep the stock deck.

Go to Jaycar, they will know the exact part you need!

cool... can you post when you get it installed and let us know how it goes, please?

if you don't have any trouble with it, I'm going to get one from the US. $1200 US = $1600 AU which is MUCH less than $3500 or so that most places are advertising (even if I have to pay duty on it!).
