I did a search first to see if I could answer my own questions, but I just came up with more to ask:cry:

With my search I found this thread http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32761 with this wiring diagram on it for a TL. http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Mitsubishi-Wiring.pdf

Does/will this work for a TJ AWD sports? It is a '03 model if that helps. My car has 4 “front” speakers and the 2 rears. The fronts are the two in the door and the two in line with the wing mirrors. Are these sets of speakers wired into the same connection at the HU or will they have different spots on the plug into the HU?

The reason I am asking is I want to do a HU change eventually as this stocko one displays “ERR06” every so-often and it is starting to sh*t me  I would also like to know if I will need to run an amp if I change HU’s and want to use all 6 existing speakers in the car.

I don’t know what head unit I will be getting so don’t go asking anything about that… yet ;).

Sorry if these are dumb questions but I don’t know much about car audio :doubt:

All of my audio is stock if this helps.

Thanks in advance.

the front speakers combine to one wire when it gets to the head unit
the tweeter is joined to the speaker
you should have no trouble when swapping the decks over

the wire that comes from the tweeters goes straight down to the woofer in the front door then the wire from the woofer goes to the headunit loom.

A new headunit will run the four speakers fine. Most new headunits are atleast 4 x 50watts anyway. I wouldn't recommend upgrading the factory front speakers with anything apart from splits because even though they are factory they will sound alot better than most aftermarket 3 way speakers!

Also, dont buy sony!

Ahh, now I understand, isnt that a pretty dodgey way to do it?

Good to know about the HU. I am not planning to upgrade the speakers just yet, they get some pretty decent sound coming out of them I agree :P

How come, dont they perfom too well?

I was going to go with a Pioneer or a Blaupunkt as my sister had a pioneer one in her skyline and mum also had one in her VL. They pump the volume out but they dont distort the stockies in it. My Blaupunkt in my skyline (when I had it) distorted after market 3 ways from Blaupunkt. I wasnt impressed that I couldnt get my stereo as loud as my sisters or mothers:rant:

whats wrong with sony :D
when you are looking at purchasing a h/u make sure that it has 3 sets of pre-outs (fronts, rear and sub)
will be much easier in the end if your looking at adding a amp or to
but yeah the new h/u will power your speakers no worries and you should notice that it sounds alittle different

Na its not really a dodgy way. Its the mitsubishi factory just using inline crossovers. Its the same way that sony use and even some of the base model pioneer splits.

I work for a car audio firm and we fitted an entire sony syetem into a car last week. The dude was back within a week complaining that it kept cutting out. After we checked and replaved every part in the system we found out that the reason was that the top end sony splits just couldn't handle the power coming out of the amp. Also the overall quality isn't the best either.

The best stuff I've fitted is pioneer, we've never ahd a warranty comeback fopr a pioneer deck but we get a Sony deck in for warranty every few weeks.

Great, Thanks for all the help, I will be sure to keep this in mind when I go to look for a new HU. Maybe after uni is over..or I might get myself a late chrissy present, maybe in the Jan sales after I get some cash for chrissy and some extra work

Again thankyou all for the help, I will definatley keep all of this in mind. It makes everything so much easier to install, I just need a bit of dads help and patience :)

I will show off the HU, when/if I eventually get one

the easiest trick is to get the aerpro harness to connect straight from the harness into the HU. no cutting, just a couple of plugs and done.

One can only hope. No grumbling about fit and no removing the little shelf under the current HU.

Another great deck is JVC. You get a lot of features and good build quality for a good price! Ive had 2 now and have had no problems with them at all.
