Hey all, I have a TS sports 2.6l EFI 5sp manual which I recently procured from my younger brother. Mistake 1 I know! It seems to develop a little jerking motion that I can feel there most of the time but is most noticeable when travelling at 80km plus with little engine load. As soon as you put your foot down and load up the engine or totally unload the engine it disappears. My first thought is ignition system. Before I go replacing distributor caps, leads and plugs Has anyone been through this before?

Also when I first serviced the car I bought a set of plugs as per the manual to find that the car coughed and pluttered badly. I have since found that the current plug is not the same as the standard plug.

Does it ever do it when stopped? Do the rev's drop back and forth? I had a dodgy throttle position sensor that caused the car to rev while cruising at 80, but under load it would go away.

Possibly fuel starvation if the fuel filter is clogged.

The engine could be intermittently missing on 1 cylinder when it is at idle but it is not enough to feel or hear. It is only really noticeable when crusing on the freeway at a steady speed.

hmmm well i also had a dodgy idle speed controller at the same time, so that might have caused my idle issues.
Look into the TPS, it's located on your throttle body. See if you can go to a wreckers and try one to see if it stops the problem.

Ive read this elsewhere but would have thought that it would be more likely to starve under acceleration rather than cruising?

Yeh fuel starvation should only be a problem under load.

My TR had this problem, turned out that replacing the alternator fixed the problem
