This is on a TL, I realise some noise is normal, but it annoys me that it is so loud, does anybody know a way of making it quieter?

It's pretty much impossible, as it's a clutch type setup actuated by a solenoid. The only way to avoid hearing it is to activate the compressor while you're driving along, instead of at idle.

whats the problem??? a bit of a noise? it's just the location of the pistons in the compressor causing the clunk every now and then when the clutch engages! it still cools well, and operates normally

I complained many times because my KJ makes that loud clunk noise as where my KH is silent and so is my mums KE.
Mitsub said it is totally normal but that doesnt explain why the kj is so noisy.

You know what its like trying to get answers out of them.

I've learnt to live with it.

Could be different model compressor units used during production...?

Anyone tried running the a/c belt a little bit LOOSER?

Don't hurt to let the belt live a bit looser as long as its not slipping all the time afterwards,
little bit of slip at startup may lessen the klunk shock. Belt too tight kills bearings too.

The noise is the compressor kicking in caused by the air gap being to big.... it is adjustable but alot of stuffing around..... mine does it on start up after being off for ages and Ant wont touch it.... he has lots and lots of the same complaints especially now the weather has warmed up

I have the same problem with my TL

Never had the problem with my TE or TF

I just put it down to my TL being a pile of steaming dog dodo.

At least its working. I am having an argument with my local dealer about my aircon in my TL. When it works its great but just cycles off for too long. I wouldn't careless if it made a clunk as long as its working.
