Other then mitsu dealer. i have a steering knock in my wagon. When you go left hand down and at about 11'oclock there is a knock, doesn't happen the other way. took it to my regular mechanic he was confident it was the rack, had the rack out the knock was still there, he didn't know what it was. i want to get it fixed, not that i ge tto drive it much, wife does more then me. Any info would be useful.

Is the knock felt through the steering wheel, or is it a noise that is heard whilst driving?

Take it to a different mechanic. Could be a number of things.

Is it sort of a clicking sound as you turn the wheel? If so, I had a similar issue with my 98 TF sports. My regular mechanic assumed the worst and said it needed some replacement parts (shock?), when I came back to collect the car, he said when he had the wheel off, he shoved grease in some part (sorry, cannot be more specific) and to test if the clicking sound went away put the wheel back and lo behold it has vanished since. He just charged me for labour :D

Guy is in Blacktown if you need his contact details

It could be shocks, springs, cvs, bearings, transmission plus more. Better to take it to someone who knows how to diagnose it :).

describe knock... is it a sound, feeling through the steering etc???

If its just a sound it could very well be a plastic guard just in front of the front wheel that has popped out of its place and getting caught on the wheel when u turn it.... happens to me whenever the guard comes out of place...

doesnt really bother me that much.... all i have to do is cut it off if i feel like it.... but all i have to do is 'knock' it back under the guard.... thanks anyway

or ghetto it, drill 2 holes in the plastic and run some wire in a loop through the holes and affix the wire to some part of the body to hold the plastic guard back where it should be.
