Hi all!,
Just got myself a 1999 Magna TH Advance at a good price. But I was wondering about some some stuff with the car. I notice that the gear indication lights on the dashboard, N and D are not working (not sure if they are supposed to be like), no lights come on N and D but there are lights on the rest of them like 1,2,3,R,P. Is the dash supposed to be like that or is has the lights blown?
If I need to change the bulbs for those lights do I need to go to Mistubishi or you can can these lights from other places like Repco or Super Cheap?
Also I may want to change the back lights on the dash as well are these the same bulbs? What gives with the colour? Is the back light supposed to be Yellow, White or what? The light is so dim even on the max illumination its so dull. Thinking of changing to White or Blue. Need your opnion on these. Thanx all!

The gears r all meant to display. IDK what bulbs etc. Sumone thats pulled it apart would know.
As for dash lights, Do you mean the revs etc? There are a few threads about different coloured bulbs etc people have swapped. Do a search on here.
Welcome to AMC, it is fun, you learn alot from ppl who know their shiznit and um, hope you enjoy it.

The lights for what gear you are in are simple to replace, just unscrew the plastic surround on your cluster (2-3 screws) then you will see 4 screws, 1 in each corner on the edge of the cluster, undo these and the cluster will slide towards you when pulled.
You will see the bulbs on the back of the cluster quite easily, just rip one of em out and go to Mitsu. Repco/Autobarn may stock these but unsure?

Wow Thanx guys that was really a fast reply!!! Thanx. I'll probably try to look at the dash tommorrow. The backlight of the dash is supposed to be white I guess. Like the rev and speedo but are they as easy to change and the same type of bulb as the gear indicators?
Hey I also noticed another thing, when you are in D and stop at a traffic light steping on the foot brake the engine/ car vibrates abit and I think sometimes the revs are irregular you can see the needle moving up and down abit on the counter. Anyone else has this problem? Any ideas why?

The backlights I am guessing would be different bulbs. You can change bulb colour, replace with LED's or buy those condom things to go over them n change the colour. From memory there is either 2 or 4 bulbs for this.
Your vibration problem: How bad is the vibration and how large a distance is the needle moving?

No, D should light up too.
If you cant be bothered buying a globe, just swap the globe from 'L' into D...

Well the vibration is not that bad but I wasn't expecting a car like this to have vibrations even my older cars never had this problem. You can sort of feel the whole car shaking/ vibrating through the engine bay. Well the needle moves up and down about 150rpm. Not much but it maybe a cause for concern. So I was wondering are all magnas like that or just the TH models, or mine is faulty. Anyone has this problem?

My TH has a pretty rough idle in gear.. in neutral its smooth with a little glitch every once in a while.. Its been there since I got it - even after services..

there are 4 globes in the back to light up the whole cluster, there the same ones u use for ur parkers, cant remember the size though
if ur going L.E.D's like id did make sure u get the 4 pre globe as the 3 (like i got by mistake) dont spread the light enough imho... gonna have to spend some more cash on gettin the 4 per globe when i change over my dail faces...

Well its not a carby one so I dunno about it hunting... (going up n down like sum lawnmowers set at low revs) Adjust the idle... theres threads on this... And see how it goes, otherwise mention to mechanic at next service.

All you need to know is here in the forum.
Here is the link for you to replace them. Go and get the globes, all of them should light up when in that position.

Hey! Again many thanx to everyone. You guys have been so helpful.
Now I guess on to another thingy.
Does the TH Advance come with a power antennae? If not I guess only the Verada come with it?
Has anyone fixed a power antennae then? Where would you get one? Can you use non original ones like from Repco or super Cheap?
Is it hard to fix, is like all the wiring there or there would be a need to pull an extra wire through?
How would you activate the power antennae if my stereo is not the original one?
Cheers 4 all the help guys!

Your rough idle when you apply the brakes sounds like a leaking vacuum booster diaphragm. It would lean out the mixture a lot and the ECM would 'dance' around trying to correct it. Hook a vacuum gauge to the plenum and watch it when the brakes are applied. If the vacuum falls, then you have this problem.

I own a 1999 magna TH executive, I have the same problem with the idol while stopped at a set of lights, I find that if you put it from drive into neutral the rough idol will become a bit less noticeable.

Hi again all!,
Well spoke briefly with a Mitsubishi Mech (I think). He said that this was a common thing in these models. The car struggles keep everything going appearently. Not really sure what he meant. But for what is worth i feel that this model shouldn't be like that. Well I'll try and get more information from my Mech but due to exams not that soon. Will try and get something more substantial. Cheers!

Could have been an option, but most have manual antennaes. The TH model antennae is rather expensive, however you will find that a TJ or TL antenna will fit. Its a matter of a few wires (depending on how picky you want to be). There should be 2 wires to the power antenna - power and remote. The headunit should have some kind of antenna wire to hook into, otherwise you will just have to use another remote wire from the headunit (altho that means when stereo is on, antenna is up). Power could be any 12v power source.
You will need to run these wires to the boot (under the plastic door strips is fine).

Thanx for your help. I was actually wondering if it would be worth fitting a power antenna. The cost and hassle wise. I think Its a good thing as I'm afraid I'll bent the antenna either with branches, garages or cover car parks. Also the hassle of having to come out of the car to lower the antenna and vice versa. Well I guess I wait and see if anyone else has any opinion on power antennas. Many thanx!!! Cheers!
