hey guys my ts has been sittin in the sun for a good part of 9 months and is startin to fade on the roof and the once nice metallic paint is startin to look a bit dull. i went to supercheap today and my thought to fix it are,

buy a buffer and work either some megs medium or fine cut cleaner to cut it back and hopefully take out some of the scratches etc, then i was going to hit it with some colour x to try and bring some life back into the paint, and then of course give it a wax with some wax which i havent decided on yet.

whats peoples thoughts on this and what have you guys done to battle the dreaded 2nd gen magna paint fade nightmare, i wanna try and fix it before it gets to the stage where clear coat starts to peel and things start goin real bad

I read that the paint on the TR is a type of early metallic paint that has 2 layers to give it the look it has, and if you use a cutter on it the top clear layer that makes it look metallic gets scrubbed off quite quickly and then you need a respray to get the look back. CHA CHING$$$$

Just use Colour X first and see how that goes.

ok the roof isnt that bad its mainly where polish hadnt been buffed out by hand properly which left a big dull patch, so you think if i got some colorx and worked it in with a buffer, being careful of course it should bring some life back into it?

Those $25 buffers wont do any harm to your car dood, Just go over with it once, wipe it off (get some nice microfibre clothes) and keep going.

Ive buffed my car like 3 times now (mainly due to layness the 1st time) and the paint is still ok and i use an orbital sander

yes...Thank you for pointing that out....lol
the cheapy buffer will be OK but dont expect miracles, you might be there for a while working the stuff in.

Do what Mad Ix Said, Get Color X Fiirst and see how that goes, if that fails use a Light cutting compund, That should get rid of most fading...If not..Try and Try again

thanks for the help, the colour x worked wonders, its a mighty nice thing to see the sparkle of metallic on a nice sunny day, now the colour is right but the finish still isnt perfect, im thinkin i will use a clay bar to smooth it all out, maybe a bit of scratch x to get rid of all the little scratches in the clear coat then a good quality wax should bring it up lookin brand new, now just gotta apply for a loan to pay for all of it..
