hmm, strange - a lot of ppl here have had the 6x9's fit in perfectly cos i know mine did

What is not the right shape?? or is it the magnet hitting something below??

What do you mean by a different profile? My Polk 6x9s fitted right into the shelf on my KS, although the magnets only just clear the torsion rods for the boot lid.

well now the update is that they dont quite fit its not te bar in the boot or such its the profilr of the speaker casing , instead of being a straight piece its kinda rounded

went to the installer to find out whats the deal and its becoming harder to find hi end gear that will fit into the stock holes for the above reason

we tried risers but yuk so i will do some panel work and see how that goes as i just need around 7mm drop

if not its custom shelf time 8)

If your 6x9's dont fit in the stock holes, you can put up to the hole from the boot then just bolt them on and still use the stock covers if u want.

yeah i have Blaupunkt 6x9's and i had to use a spacer and bend the metal where the speaker goes. But NO cutting and still in the factory positions all nice and flush. wouldnt know the difference

Well I am shocked that your distributor would say that (bout high end stuff not tending to fit as much in stock positions).... You can't get higher end than the top range of Alpine gear and those fit!

However, as others have stated, you'll have to try some spacers or make up some wooden panels (covered in carpet, vinyl or leather) to pack it out a bit.

Adam

I replaced the stockys with Sony 6x9s
I had to cut some of the plastic from the bottom of the plastic grill so that I could put the grill back on.
Other than that they went straight in.

Are you SURE you got 6x9's and not 7x10's!

Can you tell us what speakers youve got? I want to check them out on a website and see the profile youre talking about?

See the attachments for what I have.

They don't fit and it's because of the profile underneath.. it's more curved and sticks out and won't sit properly because the steel on the parcel shelf is moulded out too much imo.. it's meant for a perfect speaker.. a perfect fit :). I thought about spacers but they won't work because it's already far too high to fit the stock cover on.

I read here that I could perhaps get some bolts and mount the speakers from underneath. Does that sound like an option? Otherwise I'll just get some different speakers that fit.

yes thats a good photo of the problem , i found that if i got the pliers onto
the metal around the outer corners i could get it to fit in

in the end it was right the way round , abit tough wher the torsion bar is
but it can eaisly be done ,about 5-10 min per side if ur doin it nice and neat . it was actually harder putin in the screws with the rear screen !!

this was the best option as risers dont work and a new shelf due to the
layout and "bumps"will be expensive

so hop in ur boot and start pannel bending !!!

oh mine are 6x9 they are infinity

Ok i had the same problem with my Kenwood High End 6 X 9 speakers, What i did to overcome this problem was get a set of multi grips (pliers)and bent the metal outwards and the speaker should then drop and fit in (snuggle fit).

Also i was just looking at the magnet on the bottom of that massive pioneer 6 x 9. I think it might hit your torsion springs.

But hey give it a go.

I just bought a set of Kenwoods from Slayer, They are a set that have a special magnet, they use Dual Mags.

Click on this website for an overview of this item. http://www.kenwood.com.au/car3.asp?gid=1&cid=45&pid=173

I Recommend these Kenwood Speakers to anyone that is thinking of updating their 6 x 9 stockies.

Focal, Infinity etc. is all definetely higher end gear then the top of the range Alpine gear. Infinity make some beautiful stuff.. Unfortunate that for the price you pay for them, they don't fit.

Umm I've got these same 6X9's installed into the roof of my TR Wagon. There a perfect fit !

However they sound crap in this location. However I think it's these Pinoneers.

Magna's easily take 6X9's on the rear shelf as well. I'm confused ?

I replaced my 6x9 units with 6x9 Clarions. (Great sound!) they did not fit either. Was kinda short on anything useful to fix the problem, but improvisation saved the day, the old hammer worked a treat

Those rear screws at the back closest to rear window are a total prick for the record. It will be a loooong time before I ever get those screws out again :D

I mananged to get the speakers in the back. However, I did have to remove the plastic 'shroud' on top of the speaker.. basically had to break the speaker.. in the process ungluing some small sections of the cone which were then epoxied back down.. pretty dodgey job but it DOES the job and anything sounds a thousand times better than those piece of shit paper cone stockies :) I cbf taking the speaker grille off now for a picture but I'll post one up when I can.
