hey guys
im a new member here and ive had my TR magna for about 6 months. ive done some simple mods like highperformance ignition leads, ngk iridium sparkies, high performance oil pump and timing chain kit a good sound system and remote central locking, alarm and immobiliser.
i was just wondering what else is a good idea.
i also need a new grill and coz i dont want to replace it with the standard TR grill i was wondering if the KS verada grill or any other grill fits in perfectly?
any input would be appreciated

Depends what you want to do. On the performance side, I can recommend a pod/panel filter, a nice straight through exhaust system and extractors, some form of engine management, and from there internals like forged pistons, dual throttle bodies, and then see what your $$ situation is like :).

TR/TS KR/KS parts are interchangeable..they'll all fit.
Look at a K&N filter, be it pod or panel.
After that, look at muffler swap, if you're not after noise, a Lukey LR2779 will be your best bet.
Is yours a 6 or a 4?
If it's the 6, look into a 2.5" mandrel bent cat back exhaust.

its the 4cylinder auto tr executive
but just as an idea... is it worth doing an engine swap and getting the 3L v6 because id really like a bit more power for the amount of fuel it uses.

Im not 100% sure if the engine mounts are the same with the 4 and the 6, I dont think they are.
So if they arent...then the swap prolly wont be worth it...you'd have to get the mounts moved and engineered etc.
If it is a bolt in..then yes it's definitely worth it.
The 4 and 6 use about the same fuel, but the 6 has the power to justify the fuel consumption

Ok I have done the official measurements....
the rh side is exact
the front and rear are different but this will be solved with a simple cross member change
the lh mount is different, there may be a couple of ways to overcome this though.

I have a 92 4cyl SE
the first ever mod i did was a straight through cheap muffler $230. I was very dissapointed, as all it did was make the car 150% louder, had absolutly no power gain. thinking the problem was somewhere at the front of the exhaust system i whacked on a set of wildcat extractors, which only voided my insurance, still no real noticable power gain.
Finally i bought the cheapest of them all a K&N pannel filter. immediatly a decent power gain was evident. The engine breathed so much better and at high revs, it flew. (low revs suck, still do)
first mod i'd advise is a new pannel filter. then if you feel like it go on from there!
but what i've come to learn from TR 4cyl's, if you put on a full exhaust, pod filter with CAI. It's still going to be a little 4cyl magna, IMHO not worth doing up. Do up a 3.5 and you'll be laughing!
but save your money dude!
in the end it's up to you
Cheers!

Well, I would tend to agree with what Bounce Ferret said above... if you only do exhaust + filter + CAI you will get a small amount of go in the high rev ranges. I've done filter + CAI and I gained a bit - you can feel the engine really breathing better and find yourself using a bit less throttle on hills etc. I find that the car doesn't like sitting on 110 on the freeway as much these days - more speed = more air in etc and a bit more power.
However as I said, I agree with Bounce Ferret... if u want serious power you won't really get any until you start looking at throttle body's, ECU changes, port and polish. Aussie Magna website has some tips there - have a read. None of this is cheap and easy.... But, if u do all of it and do the throttle body etc you may get up to 150-170kW out of the 4 cyl (not at the wheels of course!). This is small compared to the money spent... but at this stage of the game you wouldn't be as concerned about the final result, more the process and enjoying the satisfaction of doing it up.
If you want a fast car look for the V6's or a car designed to be a quick sportscar... But, on the other hand, you can have a bit of fun and learn about engines whilst getting a few gains here and there at the same time by doing up what you have now.
Oh and regarding the 'engine swap' idea... be aware you have to change more than just the engine - you have ECU + several other bits and pieces to change as well. It's not just a matter of switching the motor (as in block/head). Not sure if the 3L gearbox/clutch bolts right onto the 4cyl either (well, vice versa in this case). From what I thought they were heavier duty and slightly different.
Cheers,
Adam
