On saturday arvo, as i drove through the quiet town of Belgrave, making as much noise as posible, i discovered that my gear stick was no longer in control of my gearbox. With the box stuck in second gear, i limped off to the closest sutible stopping space and poped the bonnet.
Alas, the shifter cable bracket had through no fault of its own, fallen off. i blame the 2 missing bolts.
I made a few phone calls, and organised to meet a mate in fountain gate where we could fix the shifter.
After manualy selecting third gear at the box, i slipped the clutch like a *****, till i was underway.
Now a quick history on the TR/TS 5 speed manual box. the shifter cables are located on the box by means of a two part rubber bushed braket, so that vibration may be filtered out and shifts soffened up. mine had lost the two bolts that hold part A, via rubber, to Part B. Now without the rubber gromets that hold the bolts run through, any new bolt is likly to not hold anything.
Any way, to fix this i went to autobarn, bought a pack of M8 20mm bolts, and a pack of largish washers., Using the washers in place of the rubber gromets, and the bolts in place of the bolts, I was able to control over my gear box.
AND then i was shocked to discover, a crispness, in the shift that i had never felt before, it was like someone took the magnificant 6 speed honda Integra box, ripped out a gear, and snuck it in, while i payed for the bolts!
I recomend solid mounting your shifter mounts. Its good
