I usually buy, Caltex Vortex 98, or Ideally Shell VMax - Racing if i can find the stuff.
My car is tuned to run on 98 or higher so i usually try for 98 or 100 stuff.
It actually returns better fuel economy, it runs like an absolute dog on normal stuff.

I mainly use 98 because my car doesn't like steep hills and likes to ping lol

I run 98 VMax since it came out but some times vortex98. Car runs very well on VMax it just feels soo smooth.
Ron 95, noticed i had better low end pretty much straight away, i tried going back to super and ended up stalling it half way through a 3pt turn  Noticed no difference between 98 and 95.

I havn't driven my baby yet as therefore it's of the road, but once i fix up some repairs, get a blue slip, rego it and insure it.........the fuel i'll be using will be Unleade or Premium Unleaded ;)

Used to run just regular unleaded, then I put 98 into the commodore and it ran like a dream... Will be trying it in the magna to.

98 for me, usually rotate around from mobil synergy8000 prem -> bp ult -> shell opti etc
find it gives me a better response, and helps clean the engine
p.s This has been covered before, just like 'which oil do you use' etc (in search options, go through the thread pages, If I could be bothered id find 10 straight off)

i wont tell you about the last time i melted a cat.... :bowrofl:
what no one uses ethanol??
ive used the united stuff a bit, but there isnt a servo near here...
it runs the smoothest on the ethanol 98plus or whatever its called...
and pretty much the same on all other fuels... 95-98 etc...
i think 3.0L may be more effected by the fuel as they run 5deg more initial timing

yeah I run United 95 e10 in the TH sedan,
'cos there's United stations right outside the office.
Runs ok, no complaints... does 10-13L/100 usually.
Our KJ wagon I like to fill with Shell 95. Gets filled only like once a month so $ is ok.
But she's got a bit a drinking problem though, 14-17L/100 average. :doubt:
Am suspecting I should go buy a new O2 sensor...
Usually run Vortex 98 or Optimax (VPower I think it is called now). Have had to run normal 92 RON recently and i dont like it. Rough as guts. Havn't noticed much difference when runnin g95 RON though.

Yeah where is it? lol
Nah I grab the cheap fuel, I know the better grades get you more power but I dont need it.

This poll is worthless without knowing with generation Magna each participant has, considering 3rd gens didn't have a knock sensor.
Saying that, I have a 3rd gen manual, and I recently tried 95* octane fuel after replacing the fuel filter and adding the once every five years fuel injector cleaners. Ran it for two weeks, and must say it did absolutely nothing to the performance (acceleration and responsiveness) and did absolutely nothing to my fuel economy. For an extra 15c/litre (In Sydney) it's absolutely not worth using for I gain nothing except stress when I reach the checkout.
*Could be 98, Shell has undergone a massive revamp on their performance fuels, Optimax is now Shell Extreme, and then theres Shell Extreme Ultra which is 100RON with 5% ethanol.

Normally I save money with the cheap stuff. I heard a theory that it is good to run premium through every now and then to keep everything clean/running smoothly. Wouldn't be surprised if it is an absolute crock though, anyone have an idea?
When my budget is looking up I will spoil myself with the good stuff, partly because of that theory and because I enjoy the difference with the higher octain. (although may just be a placeebo)

Its true to a point higher RON fuels are supposed to help disolve builtup of gunk in injectors. Your better off just cleaning the injectors though.

Car was tuned on 98ron (BP ulitmate IIRC), so thats what I run in it all the time. BP ult, Shell V-power or Vortex98, whatever is most convenient at the time.
Used to run the 98ron e10 blend before the turbo install, but don't anymore. I have heard it can make turbo engines run hotter, but don't know for sure, and not game to find out.

Actually the reason for this is in regards to the Shell V-Power (Optimax for the old school) and BP Ultimate is that both fuels contain cleaning addictives. It just happens these fuel companies are adding these addictives to only the higher octane fuels.

I use Mobil Synergy 8000, I feel that i get about 20 extra K''s out of a tank, compared to Shell V-Power, and Caltex Vortex, but that honestly could be due to many factors.

Standard 91 gasoline but I did fill up with 98 E10 once which was 3c cheaper than 91 at a United in Freemans Waterhole but it did not seem to get that many km out it.

I use 98 cause my car is tuned for it and I have to. Before it was tuned tho I just used 91 ron from either Caltex or Shell because I get the 4c/L off vouchers from shopping at Woolies and Coles. There is no use in using 98 ron fuels in our cars (read: 3rd gens) unless they're tuned for it. Run some injector cleaner through your car every 2 years will do the same thing and save you a hell of a lot of money.

Ive just started using the shell v power stuff. Havent noticed my difference performance wise but i seem to get a few more k's out of the tank.
Filled with a tank of the new shell V power today. Seems same as Optimax to me! Will see how it goes on the Km's and get back to you.

91/92 oct cos unless ECU is re-progged or chipped, there is no benefit to use higher on 3 Gens. Unlike the Gen 2s....

Run the car only on Shell V-Power (previously know as Optimax), hate to change brands so i stick to just one. I get under 10L/100km all the time with a combination of all sorts of driving conditions and styles. As for running smoother coz it high octane, can't verify that, got a broken engine mount, it still sending lots of vibrations through the car at idle, but smooths out when accelerating.

i used to run on 98 ron, but i can't jutsify the extra price above 95ron when they both ran the same way i stay away from 92ron, as there is a slight drop in throttle respone
