Hi all,
I just recently picked up a 99 Verada KH Xi, and it needs a new exhaust. I've been quoted around $500 from my mechanic for a standard Mitsubishi part but this seems a bit steep IMO.
Am I being ripped off, or are stock Verada parts really this expensive?
Cheers,
Chris

Wheres the exhaust from? Im guessing Cat back, if so yes, for a standard part it is expensive, for that Kind of money, upgrade to a 2.5" Exhaust with a nice muffler on the end

:stoopid: Go to an exhaust shop for a replacement exhaust/muffler. Don't buy genuine as it's too expensive and will be inferior anyway.

Nope, see that's the thing. It's not from Cat back... hence the warning bells going off... I was expecting $300 tops..
I like how quiet the car is at the moment so I'd rather not get anything louder. Not a big fan of loud exhausts. (Unless it's the Starwars-esque sound from a Mc/Merc SLR engine....) :P

The loudness comes from the muffler. If your muffler is ok you can retain it and replace the exhaust system at an exhaust shop. If it's buggered too ther're plenty of quiet mufflers you can get.

If you get a generic Muffler, say with 2 nice tips at the end, it will basically only roar when you plant the foot down, other then that its pretty quiet.
Only ones that im guessing you wanna stay away from is a cannon muffler
stock mufflers are crap...At least get a VRX Muffler which is good for apparently 7Kw...

Muffler is fine, it's just the joins that are almost rusted through. Thought I might as well replace it all with new exhaust if possible.
Hmm, that sounds good actually. If I can spend up to $600 on a new (quiet) exhaust n muffler (inc labour), what brand would you recommend?

Magnaflow, Redback, there your main ones.
also just ask the exhaust guys what would sound nice when you give it a boot but be quiet down low, and always haggle with them to save some $$:D

Thanks mate, much appreciated! I'll probably go down and have a chat with the guys on the weekend.
Cheers!

Dude for that money you could get something awesome. Magnaflow muffler gives a nice sound without sounding like a fog horn through a intercom system if you want something quite.
Don't buy the genuine stuff it's way to expensive for what you get. It's much cheaper for bolton parts form third parties. Redback do a nice system and so do RPW.

yeah mate you are getting ripped. i had the same thing happen with my KH when i bought it and i shot straight down adn got a new exhaust fitted for $350. that included a twin stainless tip. these guys know what they are on about and if you have a yarn to the local guys they would be able to advise you on what's loud and what's not. also do a search for ehxaust places in your local area and ask some questions there too.
good luck mate
