My rpw headers arrived today and theres a fair bit of paint scratched and chipped off them, is it worth painting them or not? Is the paint only for asthetics or does it offer something else?

if you do paint them i think you will need to use a very high temperature paint to cope with the heat, and to have something like that it needs to be baked on.
id probably leave it for now

The paint probably offers abit of protection from rust / corrosion - just make sure you aren't painting over existing rust.
Your best bet for a paint that will withstand the temps would probably be VHT's flame proof enamel.

Thats what i was going off, it says to get maximum temperature protection or whatever it is, says for the item to be baked at certain tempteratues for certain amounts of time

I read on a couple forums that the normal running temps will be enough to bake on whatever header paint I use, I just wasn't sure if there's any reason to do it as they're covered by the heat shield they can't really be seen.

I doubt you'll get the heatsheild back on over the top of your RPW headers. I've never seen a car with aftermarket headers that has the factory heatshield installed. Unless of course you are talking about some form of custom heatsheild.

:stoopid: i think the factory manifold has allowances for bolt holes for the heat shield, so yeah the factory ones don't fit back on.....besides, who doesn't wanna show extractors off if they got em?
