Hey guys.
Just like to start out by saying what an awesom site! I've had a look through it all and this seems to be a top notch lil community you have going..
I currently drive a Chrysler Valiant Galant stationwagon (1977) but i have a question about my dad's car. Its a 1998 Verada... 75000kms on it now..
Just recently the alarm has been playing up. Sometimes (most of the time) when you lock the car and go away, the alarm will go off about 10 mins later. It happened very suddenly and then went away again for about a week but now its come back. The only way of getting around it is to leave the bonnet popped so that the car doesn't automatically lock etc etc..
any ideas on what i need to fix? or how to disable the alarm untill we can get a sparky to look at it?
cheers.
zy.

One of the sensors is probably not sitting right - most probably the boot or bonnet.
Lock the car then have a fiddle and try to lift the bonnet or boot and see if that sets it off..
Otherwise, just lock the car with the key instead of the remote so you dont activate the alarm :P

tried locking it with the key.. the security light still comes on as usual meaning that the alarm is activated?
dont think it is the bonnet sensor.. worked perfect when i tried it with the bonnet up.. havnt done the boot one or the doors yet tho.
its due for a 75000 service now.. i'll mention it to mitsubishi but as with most dealers service departments i think its gonna be "out of their league"
can anyone recomend a good mitsu dealer in the sydney/hunter reigon? i live central coast area and dont mind a drive because our local dealer is crap..
cheers.

well the verada is down at mitsubishi as we speak..
i took it to an auto elect but he said its out of his league cuase he doesnt own a "MUT tester" or something.. mitsubishi said they just plug it in to a diagnostic computer and then go for gold cuase it tells them what to replace..
hopefully they are done soon becuase i have a 3pm flight today lol..
i'll let you know what they find.

what happened on ours was the contacts that tell the computer whether the doors are open, locked etc were a bit coroded.. mitsubishi had no idea they wanted to replace the whole alarm module and quoted us $1300 fitted.. so we took it to another auto elec who knew what was wrong straight away and fixed it for $50.. all he had to do was take the door trim off and "sand" the contacts with some fine sandpaper..
simple fix really :D

Yep once the car dried out we have had heaps of rain in Melbourne the alarm started working fine. Sounds like bad connections.

There is actually a way of finding out what has set the alarm off. It is recorded in the ECU or ETACS. The manual has a procedure of how to retrieve the codes. Cant remember how to do it from memory.
