Hello people!
I would like some help on this mini problem I have.

Ok! When I turn my headlights on at night, after 10 minutes of driving, the battery light usually starts to light up and turn off. And the dash lights will dim a bit.
I notice this only happens when the full headlights are on.

Do I need a bigger battery?
NRMA checked with a multimeter and the battery was charging well, so that's covered.
And i read in my manual that if the battery light comes on and off that means the drive belt should be changed.

So i'm not really sure on what to do?
The mechanic said the alternator is beautiful.

Bigger battery maybe?

I had a similar problem in my TS, I traced it back to the regulator on the alternator being intermittent, replaced it and was all good.

Actually put a VDO Voltmeter in as well so i could monitor the charging voltage and see if my amps were drawing to much current...you'll see it drop back to battery voltage every now and then if it's the regulator...

Cummins.

Oh that's right i saw in one of the old threads something about the regulator. How much did that set you back?

Can't remember, wasn't too much though, got it from repco i think...easy to replace...

A new regulator is about $60 from repco and will take about 15 mins to fit. I'd say thats all the problem would be. They are not designed to last as long as your alternator. The bushes wear out on them eventually and so just chuck em.

Im with everybody else.

I had the same issue in my TR, and got the same outcome by replacing the regulator on the alternator. $49.50 from autobarn for a bosch branded one.

possibilities

Loose or Broken drive belt: Ajust or renew drive belt
Faulty alternator regulator: Renew regulator unit
Faulty battery: Instal a new battery of the recommened type and capacity
Faulty alternator: Overhaul or renew alternator
Fault in charging circuit wiring: Check and repair or renew wiring harness

have you checked to see what your battery is actually charging at?
should be charging around 14.4 volts
should be able to use a volti-meter to see what its charging at
if its not charging around 14.4 volts then you might have a problem with your altenator
you may also have a faulty battery

i might have to replace both.....battery and alternator....i'm assuming the drive belt maybe ****ed too?

Have you tried changing the oil in the fryer, that might make the batter light go away. :)
