g day folks

i got a Tn elante and its my first car, had it a fair while now, i love it! but i want more from it, the engine seems to be a good one as its been reliable so far (its efi). The only prob i have had with it so far is the alternator but i replaced that with a 33$ one from a wreckers. At the moment it has a 2.5" exhast but i am thinking about extracters, yes or no? what else would people suggest i do to this (apart from turbs).

Oh by the way, any u guys from adelaide with old skool magnas?

yeah extractors will give heaps more power if ya dont wanna go turbo

by the way, does your car backfire heaps on decelleration with the 2.5"?

kool, yer it does a bit, not much an only when it gets hot, how would you all suggest i could cool it better? it has the mas sensor so i will need a panel filter, so just have another tube going to it?

yyaaaayy another elante, mind if i ask how may K's yours has on it?

Ive never had problems with my alternator, and im pretty sure the exhaust is standard. Im mot a modder myself, well at least until i get it running properly.

Does your car have the regular short headrests in the back seat, or you have headrests like the fronts seats do? Mine does.

Also what options you got on yours? i have em all except for power windows.... for now ;)

I forgot to ask both BJ and Mad lante, are yours manuals or autos? im manual mauahaha

its done 235thou approx.

i got normal head rests, they dont move up or down but forward and back, in 3 positions.

I had to add the cruise control ($150) and remote central locking ($55) and the cd player ($130), tint next week wooo!!!!

Why would someone buy a car and get power mirrors but NOT windows?

Bought it about 7 months ago with 167,000 on it (its at around 174,000 now)

Did you find the guy who owned it before you was a mechanical moron who never maintained his car? Im sorry its a pet peeve, the guy who owned the car before me never did simple stuff like change the oil, 3 changes later im still getting sludge out, im gonna flush it proper next time.

also stuff like rusty water in the radiator combined with a seized open thermostat, it stalled on startup and badly cracked exhaust manifold (i suggest taking a look at yours, its either cracked or repaired... or your real lucky). Seems like a typical case of "just fix it so it goes"

Pulls like a train tho, and has enough get up and go to make me slip the clutch more, dont wanna wear the tyres out.

And with the headrests, i mean in the back seat....

yer im gonna ave to do sum thing bout my strip along the back cos i get my amp installed dis weekend and just the bass from the 6x9s when the boot is closed makes it shake really bad.
hmm dunno bout a place dat specialises in these cars but if u needin parts u-pull-it and good 4 dat, i woundnt get ne thing under the bonnet cos theres only 2 fuel injecteds there but there great 4 other parts i got a boot liein for $5 :p. BUT if ur after mechanical parts mitsi bits are great, i got my alternator and fuel sender unit from there they test everything and give ya a 3month warranty.

yer a old skool magna cruze would be great the only problem is there isnt many of us here!

hey wot colours urs mines white and didnt come wit the luxary pack (pw windows, centrol lockin, cruse, but ive installed centrol lockin myself)

yer mines a manual too but its on its way out the syncos STUFFED, it crunchs really bad if i put it in 2 or 3rd quick and crunches in R too or it just wont go in R unless i pull the cluch out to it clicks

mine's silver. i got it 2 years ago with 60,000 on the clock.. it has now just hit 100K.. not bad for a 14 year old car.. the original owner must of only drove it to church on sundays and it was fully serviced and i even got the log books for it .

Mines manual with pm, ps,

i hate power windows so just have normal ones.. (my old telstar had pw and i was fixin the bloody thing every few weeks so neva again).

just waiting on the rest of the suspension work then will get eghaust and extractors.

heh, mods? atm just stereo, exhast and muffler, soon as i get me a job im getting a filter, exracters then it should be about done.

The amp cable, i found a little hole in the fire wall near the glovebox and i have just run the cables out through where the head unit is and i havent put it under the carpet yet so it just runs along the floor, up under the back seat and through the hatch.

the roof, its a bit saggy and when people write their name there it stays for a few mins, i like it lol

The TP lights? i didnt do that, i thought that was stock for the Elante?

My roofs perfect!

My dad has a glx, and you know that little ball thing ontop of baseball caps? Theres a big dent in my dads one from one of them because of me a few years back, hurt me head too.

Those lights are TP ones, either the lights are changed or the front nose has been changed, what year/month is on your compliance plates?

Mad elante, my dads strip across the top came off only on the highway and a truck went past real close. We didnt know what it was, we could just hear it banging up there until we stopped.

Probs with my elante is theres something, sounds like its in the drivers front corner, its a loud windy sound that starts up around 80, pisses me off i can find and fix it.

Extractors will do VERY little on these engines for some reason. Alot of people have had no gains, my friend being one of them. Dont do it. For 400 dollars have your intake polished or something. Will have more gains with that.

meph, i put new brake pads in on sunday and on of the bolts on the calibers had come off, check them, check all the bolts for that matter, alot of mine were loose.

Meph
06-01-2004, 10:22 PM
its not a brake noise, its a windy noise, you know? the wind? its coming from the drivers front of the cabin!

Sorry if i confused anyone, but i do see where u could get misled.

i put my 4awg amp wire thru the side of the grommet for the steering column. just used a screw driver to make a hole right near the edge the jammed the wire thru.

Mad elante, you get a screwdriver and under the glovebox, in the passenger footwell, you take out a few screws at the front (some are hidden by covers) and theres this big tray like cover that comes out, then stick your head under there, and you should see a hole there into the engine bay.

You may not have to take the cover out, i forget, its been a while.

Im sure all cars have this...
