Is there anything wrong with the FACTORY CAI on the TJ? (unsure what other models have them) The great big angular intake looks a little too thin for great airflow, but apart from that...?
NB. Not MY beast..

I dont own a TE-TJ, but I've always looked at the slit for the airflow and always thought to myself, its too small to be practical.
But then again, Mitsu engineers swear by it, so you can only assume it does the job. :o

All Magnas have the same intake snorkle. It's good for normal family driving, but if one wishes to get full gain on breathing mods, I would consider it an absolute necessity to replace it with proper cai tube and K&N filter. Or pod with cai (not just pod on it's own, mind you...) The improvement on air flow is detecable, especially on high revs.
Why do they produce it like that from the factory then? Cheap? Easy? Reduces induction noise? Etc?
And yes, it is restrictive as a design - 80 mm tube has bigger cross cut area than that squeezed-down flat snorkle. 8)

The 3rd Gen Magnas have one of the best factory CAI in the market so it's already a good piece of hardware....

...And the story about chucking a pipe straight into the intake of an installed pod? Any gains there? Or just leave it sucking in engine grime...

Ordered a K&N panel filter yesterday arvo. $120 incl freight from Autobarn.. I also ordered a CD player & disc holder at the same time so I got it $10 cheaper + free freight. I'll see what that gives me :)

Hot intake air = bad news. Give it plenty of fresh, cool air.
