Hey guys

Couple of questions.. I'm looking at putting some money back into my KS Verada cos some problems I've had with it have been fixed and its running quite reasonable again and serving me well.. only problem I have with it now, is when it's cold, it's very chuggy and struggles, even when given a two minute warm up. I did a throttle body clean today and when it's warm it has a small increase it response.. havent tested it when its cold but I've tried cleaning throttle body b4 but it didnt fix it.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and know an inexpensive fix?

mate i too would like to know the answer to this.
my car is weak as it feels like something holds it back.
i have the exhaust , extractors, o/s throttle body , k&n etc.

I think it might be the fuel system ie: injectors or fuel pump or some crap like that.
have you thought about that for yours?

I will surely check them out.. I havent replaced anything besides two oil and filter changes since I bought the car 10,000km ago , so maybe some maintenance is due. Whats weird is its not toooo bad when its warm.. just cold. Maybe overfuelling by the feel of it..

i know its runs advanced timing.
If you hook up a timing light and start the car you'll see it will start off at like 24Deg BTDC and then as the car warms up, it will slowly bring itself back to 5Deg BTDC

I just wanted to tell you that, as for your problem i cannot help you :)

Yeah they probably do run rich on startup.. i know if u repeatedly tap the throttle on a 3rd gen v6 when its idling cold, it sounds like it has a lumpy cam.. and yer a whole heap of black smoke (burnt excess fuel) comes out the exhaust.

I did another throttle body clean today and it's not quite as bad as it was but it's still not flash. I also think it could just be that it's old, has 216k on it and the previous owner either overheated it or drove it til the timing belt snapped.. (cant remember which one he said) heads were re-done amongst other things, but engines are never the same once these things have happened in my opinion

your cars the auto verada if i'm correct? Big4cyl can beat me to 100 and he has a 4cyl manual vs my v6 auto verada

The best mod you can do short of a DOHC or TT DOHC is a manual conversion

Yeah ive considered taking mine off aswell cause its way too drony but at idle and accelerating its the shiz and i cant get myself to take it off, so it would be good if there was a resonator you could put on the exhaust or somethin!

the 4 cyl when warming up dont take into account the oxygen sensor according to haynes workshop manual. they run a default 'map'. but when it warms up it does take it into consideration. damn mitsubishi making a car that cant go straight when cold.
