View Full Version : Welsh Plugs?
Ok this is the story, i have been driving my car round on weekends, its a 2.6L and tonight all of a sudden the temperature rises up, at one stage it was at 115 deg, when i got out of the car i could hear a whistling sound coming from under the EFI intake manifold, there was also coolant evrywere in that area, its just above the starter motor and defenantly under the Intake manifold because i put my hand near that area and felt the steam rushing out, it was kind of stupid to do lol, but i now know the problem area.
I hope that its not the head that has cracked or headgasket, although i know that if the head was cracked coolant wouldnt be comming out around that area.
I am pretty shure that the welsh plugs are the problem, because that is the only thing i didnt do when the engine was built, also how much is it to get new brass welsh plugs done?

yeah if it is that mate all you do is hammer a screwdriver through the plug and pry it out. then just hammer the new one in with a brass drift or rod etc...
just be sure it wasnt a coolant hose first
i found out what the problem was, it was the intake manifold leaking out one of the coolant ports, ive taken that off and now i will most probably get a new plenum chamber made up, Hence the Plenum Thread i started, usually when ever i take something off the engine it wont go back on in stock form.

bugger im gettin mine retuned monday with the new extractors. fingers crossed more power!!
and more rpm!
it could be the intake manifold thats restricting the rpm, because i have a damn turbo with stage 2 cam and still no power past 5000rpm

yeah but u havent tuned it remember general rule is whacking a turbo on should give u extra 1000rpm so from 4800 to 5800 or more. it is a long stroke too dont forget. mine is making peak power with those old extractors to 5500rpm with a 7000rpm cam. New extractors will help as will a free flowing intake. what is the advertised rpm of the cam ur running??
Tell me how you go, i dont know much about the cam, all i know is that its a stage 2 turbo.

do ya have the box you got it in the paperwork would tell ya. i think from memory the biggest turbo cam available is a 7500rpm one.
did u think about making a whole new bolt on plenum with the plates i got??

nah box is long gone, i got it from RPW, im going to mod the 2nd gen plenum rather than waste money on something that has smaller ports, i see in ur pic the flange, with the plenum im just going to cut the flange off and then get the chamber made up were the flange is supposed to be, this in turn should shorten the runners and maybe give me some gains, if that dosent work ill just bolt on another plenum, i have 2 spares. lol
