Ok.....
Found out my power steering Pump was just about dry, and dripping from the banjo nut on the top.
i overtightned it and snapped it right off...so the car aint moving anywhere lol

Umm question is, Is the oil warning light that appears on the dash related to the power steering pump? becuase that was pretty much low on oil, and so far is the only place i can find out thats leaking.

Help appreciated for anyone who can give me a straightforward answer
-Paul

i think that light is only for the oil in your engine

yep light for engine only

if the oil light is on i wouldnt be running the motor till you work out why

Only comes on after about 25 minutes of driving

I changed the oil tonight, and snapped the banjo nut on the power steering pump

i did check oil level many times and it was fine

so this has got me stumped, as the only thing ive touched on the block when doing the heads was the sump plug

any other ideas man?

the pick up in the sump maby dammaged

or the sump is pushed in

1) Possibly? might be one of those things that may just go...i know i havent touched it
2) Definatly not
3) Possibly, but has never done this before
4) I dont know what that is!

Satan - Either someone up there hates me Or i just suck at DIY Engine work....i want the 1st to be true but i think its the latter lol

The problem will be the oil pump chain has worn the majority of the gears off the two balance shaft gears, or the belt has stretched. Overall result is that the vehicle will slowly be losing oil pressure. That is one commen fault.

Second commen one is hte oil pump housing wears and starts to leak off oil and bleeds the oil pressure off.

End result - if the light is intermittently flashing on and off, be prepared to look for an engine rebuild soon.

I did not Hear you say that.
:)
Its not really flashin on and off, its just coming on after 25 minutes and when im idling...so if i come to the lights it will come on, but if i put it into neutral it goes away.

k i rang my mechanic, he said its probably power steering fluid which has dripped down onto the oil pressure switch which is basically right below it, so im gonna go check that out..but he said chances of it being an oil pump chain are minimal, as when the oil light comes on the engine isnt rattly, and if it was low on oil, i would have a seized engine by now.

also check the wire on the pressure switch if its not connected properly the oil light will come on

I just checked it out now
I gave it a wipe aswell, but not with degreaser yet
the wire seems to have a bit of play, but it definatly connected, should i go over it with degreaser to be safe?

and im pretture sure thats the problem as it had some ps fluid on it

I got another ps pump from the wreckers (as they wouldnt sell me the one bolt i need) and installed it, and its still leaking from the top banjo nut...........again.....this time its coming out with force!

this is me basically rigtht now = :headbange

Does anyone know what i can do from here to make this not bloody leak?

From Memory the banjo nut has copper washers above and below and 2 O-rings. Undo the nut and replace the washers and O-rings.

I'm reasonably certain about the 2 washers. One above and one below the nut but not so sure about the O-rings. See if there is a groove for them.

The workshop manual doesn't say.

thanks for the tips man, i dont think there is a spring washer below the banjo fitting...if there was i would have 2 laying around...and i have none laying around...and im 100% sure the one i got from the wreckers had no bottom washer too?
I have just replaced the 2 o-rings you mentioned, this could possibly be the problem as the old o rings looked very flat, these new ones look like a much tighter seal for the fluid.
Ill give it half an hour and see if any fluid develops around the top nut as it has been doing.

If it stops you a f**king ledgend:D
