just a crazy thought i had today whilst looking at my magna. wouldnt it be so cool to have the 6g75 3.8ltr motor from the 380 in a second gen. mmmmmm:badgrin:

It would, however it would be nicer to actually own a slick 380 :doubt:

I dont wanna be a poo head, but just cause you had a thought doesnt mean you have to start a thread about it?

i was wondering if it could be done. on the 3 ltr second gens the gearbox is on the drivers side. and someone was getting a 3.5 ltr v6 with the gearbox on this side. i know that because i have the 4 cyl at least two engine mounts would have to be moved. but would the 3.8 or the 3.5 fit in the engine bay?? is this a viable option instead of turboing?

Might as well:
Drop forged pistons
Custom Cam gear and rods
Stage 2 shiznit if possible

Mona-lisa of Magna cars... yes I have been watchin a lil of Tokyo drift and no, it isnt a direct quote

Pretty sure the 380 engine is around the same way as the 3rd gens, so in saying that, the cost of actually making one fit into a 2nd gen, would probably cost more than an actual 380.

why would it cost so much? and if i was to get the 3.5 instead of 3.8

becuase the engine is facing the other way!
you CAN get a 3.5 but not from the 3rd gens, they are a DIFFERENT WAY
Talk to Nicem8? or KB or GoTRICE about 2nd gen engine coversions if your that keen, im pretty sure Nicem8 had the 3.5 MIVEC but im not 100% sure on that

Engines and compatibility:

3rd Gen - SOHC 24v 6G72 3L, SOHC 24v 6G74 3.5L & DOHC 24v MIVEC 6G72 3L

2nd Gen - SOHC 12v 6G72 3L, DOHC 24v 6G72 3L & DOHC 24v 6G74 3.5L

Using this as a guide, Id say it would be *possible* to shoehorn one into a 3rd Gen, but a 2nd Gen - not possible unless you are a very rich man.

so the 6g74 in the second gen combatability. what was it from. as im assuming its the same way as the 2nd gen v6. i like the computer for fuel meter and stuff in the 3rd gen would this be on the combatable 6g74 for the 2nd gen.

Thats a question best left to KillBilly or perhaps Gotrice, I only know the engines themselves, not the electrics side of them.

The 6G74 in 2nd gen orientation was a DOHC 24v non MIVEC.

You won't get a 6G75 in a 2nd gen. Just buy a 380.

yeah you have the listed options plus the twin turbo gto motor.

One 3.5L 6g74 will fit from the deboinair as KB stated, none of the others will except if you reshape your engine bay, but thats just stupid especially as out of all of them the twin turbo will fit and has more power. FWD can only reasonably handle so much power as said 1 milion times you then start fighting a losing battle.

It's the same work as putting a huge engine in a hot rod but it's pointless.

If you're a tafe student it'll be hard for you to afford it, my DOHC conversion cost me 6k$ being at uni i barely afforded it and i could've gone TT for about 1500$ more if it fits but no ones tried it locally yet.

the reason is because i want more torque down low. i change gears at 25, 40, 57 kmh. and this means i never get over 2400 rpms. which is below the torque band. if you let it rev to 3500 and give it a bit its great but means im always skipping gears and going through the fuel.

stereo_god,
Sorry to add to your troubles but you live in Victoria - home of the "you can't touch your car - VicRoad's rules".
Any engine conversion in Victoria using an engine that did not come in that car when sold new from the factory (which includes the DOHC and DOHC TT), needs a full engineers certificate. ...and when I contacted the engineers people this means lots of brake, emissions, etc. testing - which gets too expnsive :doubt:

At least that's what my investigations ended up with.

damm ****ing vicroads arrrrgh. if i was to keep my current astron motor then how can i increase the torque down low down to 2000rpm or lower. i mean getting bout 300nm of torque at max.

Cams, Valve Springs, Valves, Ported And Polished Heads, Port matched Extrctors?
Maybe some of those

but would that and say a good choice in turbo make the same power and torque as the 3.5 ltr. and how much would all this cost?

Its fair to say no-one on here can give you a $ figure but im guessing....ALOT
and asking if a "good" choice in turbo would give the same power AND torque as another engine well who the hell knows?
would we way cheaper to turbo your current engine, and would give you enough torque to have your head stuck to the back of your seat.

Emissions shouldn't be a problem if your running the stock ECU from the new engine along with the necessary exhaust upgrades (like cat converter if fitting to a pre cat car).

A possible upgrade could be to use the 6g75 block but with 6G72/4 heads ans so on.....instead of trying to bore/stroke a 3.5.
