Gday y'all.

The time has come to finally install a bit of a system in my car as i finished exams yesterday and now have a 3month break from uni ie woot.

Anyways i'm just after some opinions on what components to get for it.

From my current set up i will be using my JVC head unit SKD1234567 or similar until i can afford a mad alpine deck. Also i think i might leave the current 6x9's which clip pretty easy in for some rear fill. I also have an amp with 4x100wrms to go in which i hope will substantially run some awesome splits.

Therefore i am looking for splits, a monoblock amp and a sub. With clarity in mind and around 1.5K$ to spend. I dont really cut corners either except i'd say ill be having a few drinks when fitting.

Joe aka blackfoxmagna has suggest some splits of some sort but i am yet to listen to his car. My splits need to perform awesomely as i love mad guitarists and solo's. I'll be putting in some soundproofing in my front doors but i dont want to add much weight.

I listen to alot of hardcore and emo punk but i like a good bit of r'n'b ie for doofing. Therefore i'm looking for a sub with excellent, crisp, sharp, perfect response but for the doof i'm thinking something with a fair bit of power. Along this line of thinking i think a 10" would be the most suitable then too.
This sub would have to be paired with a nice amp too.

From my mad woodwork skills i plan to build my own sub-box and mount it through the ski-port so i might need a bit of an idea how to sit the box down as i don't really have a floor in my boot just some thin bits of plywood. I can build one if need be, and i definately dont want to lose access to my spare; which with a 10" i think ill be right. I also don't want to add much weight with this either. I might try to recarpet my boot then too.

I'll be fitting everything myself, i put in my own head unit and current splits etc. I also might need some help on the gauge wiring etc, i know to split power and speaker wiring etc, my mate will be helping me who installed **** in his own car too.

Any help is appreciated ie tips on sound proofing subs etc as i don't want rattles, hope this all makes sense,

peace out

aj

Mate there are LOADS of options! Here are some:

For the front splits (in order of my preferance)
Morel Hybrid Ovation 6 $535
Focal 165V2 $450
Boston SX60 $449
Morel Dotech MKII6 $349
Hertz HSK 165 $363
Boston S60 $349

These prices are guides and just taken from FHRX's website. He would be a great 1st port of call for advise and gear and will look after you.

Here is a rough guide on other costs which a lot of people forget about:
2-4 AWG from Battery to Distro $70
4 AWG from Distro to Amps $8/m $30
4AWG from Amps to Chassis $16
Good quality RCA cables set of 3 (front, rear, sub) $100
Distro block $20
Speaker cable $60-$70
Connectors $10
Deadening and Focal Plain Chant Tiles $250

800W monoblock from Jaycar is great value for money.

Hope that is some help.

Cheers
Pete

Hey AJ, As previoulsy pointed out By piota, make sure you Lay nice thick cabling first time around, saves you doing it a second time.
And sound deaden everything you can, it wont add THAT much weight to your car but will stop all rattles.
Use paint on deadner on your roof (take off the lining (big thin sheet of metal vibrates like hell with bass)), Door skins (Front and rear), Bootlid, and if you can, go nuts with the metal in your boot too

Definately. Use 2 AWG if you can, but if its too expensive use 4 AWG.

Don't worry about your roof. You only have a budget of $1500. Money would be better spent on better amps or speakers. All deadening your roof does is keep the road noise out and the music in, it wont improve your music quality though. for big areas like that though, you are MUCH better of using sheet deadener NOT liquid stuff, as the sheet deadener is heavier and easier to apply. And MUCH less mess.
Also the boot, only do if you have the cash, as this can be done any time for $200 or so.
Definitely do the doors though.

Oh for sure mate, But to take the roof lining off would take about 25 minutes, and if he didnt need the car for a day, just use the paint on stuff to stuffen up the whole panel.
It made me have one less vibration so i was happy, and you could do it with about 1L of the paint on stuff anyway.
yeah it stinks, but if hes on a budget its a good way to stop another vibration

Just an idea!

Morel Hybrid Ovation 6 $535

Thats USD, you'll need to convert that to Australian.

Crap... my mistake. Damn I was going to get a set of these in the next month as well.. Oh well, will have to choose another set.
Thanks for pointing that out!

Similar AUS price would be the Morel Dotech MKII6 for US$349.

Got me some SL-60's, they are in but not working yet. Will let you know how they are tomorrow. They sounded hott when they where working and they where not staged correctly. :D

RRP$549, remember that AMC gets you a discount at FHRX studios. :D

FYI, Morel Ovation 6 are RRP$AU535. That column is the Aust RRP. The grey is the column IF you where to buy in the US with the exchange rate.
i.e. buy them in Aust and they wont cost you $1279. :D

thanks chaps, you are meaning the roof of my boot aren't you, i will be doing the necessary deadening for the sub, no sacrifices for quality.

I think i'll have the help of some seasoned campaigners too.
