well, iv had an oil leak for quiet a while, but over the last few weeks it has turned from a 'weep' into a full on leak.
so anyway, i booked her in and the car went in today, turns out the leak is in the front of the engine and they didnt have to pull the engine to to many pieces, lol but while they were at it seeems the water pump has beenleaking [i thought i was using a bit of coolant because the oil was leaking, engine running hotter blah blah blah.} also i am getting the timing belt replaced.
so yeah its off of the road for a few days and iv been told i will be 800 - 1000 out of pocket but hey, what can you do. after 300,000 kms, these things happen.
also is anyone going to the bendigo swapmeet this weekend?

Wow 800 - 1000 for belt, water pump and can seals/crank seal. Could to stem seals, rocker cover gaskets, replace all coolant and heater hoses as well and still have change. I would have sought a second quote if I were you, the only 2 places at the front of the engine that can leak are cam seals or crank seal. Rocker cover gaskets are a simple replacement if needed.

I'm about to have the same thing done, costing about $560 for that lot; timing belt, cam and crank seals, whatever else is in the kit, new water pump (which has been weeping since I bough the car 2years ago), and he said some other stuff about coolant, seals and stuff or something like that. And I think the other belts are getting replaced (aircon, steering etc).
Getting brand new (not exchange) drive shafts installed as well, so $970 all up. Could get other places to fit exchange for maybe $100 cheaper, but with all the driving around between places and time wasting, getting brand-new done at the same place seems justified. (I'd have to take time off work to go to other places, so that would negate any savings anyway!)
Am coming up on 200K, so it was pretty-much time to have the belt etc done anyway. (Had been putting off the driveshafts for the past 6+ months).
Though I'm thinking I might also check my ventilation hoses, from what I've read recently if they aren't breathing properly it can increase the pressure, putting more pressure on seals etc?

Yeah $8 of hose will replace both front and back hoses. i presume these are the PCV Hoses? Also take your PCV out and spray with carby cleaner until the little ball inside rattles again

Yeah, I finally took off the PCV valve the other week, and surprisingly it was happily rattly. Sprayed it anyway, but it seemed fine.
I did the "fuel-filter-on-the-air-hose" thing a while ago, but haven't replaced the filter, there's a reasonable amount of oil in there, just thinking that the filter paper may not be breathing too well anymore. Might actually turn it into a catch-can, remove the paper filter, maybe chuck in some baffles of some sort, and add a drain hole with bung; saves having to try to get the bloody hoses off the filter, seem to be pretty solidly in place!

no worries, got the car back friday afternoon and they had found the dizzy cap was cracked aswell and wasnt firing properly. with everything done she runs much smoother, more power more tourque and runs quieter on startup aswell. i spent all friday night cruising shepp, then drove it to bendigo and back friday so although it cost a load, i am most happy with the results. yeah i thought it was a tad expensive but what can i say, he did the job within 2 days and hes reliable. oh, and i found some schmick parts for my hr at the swap, centre consol, some tachos and i nearly bought an origy dink radio, but when i came back it was gone.
