Got my new exhaust fitted today sounds fantastic!!!. After driving out of the muffler place and down the street I noticed a fair bit of smoke and a burning smell comming from the engine bay.
So I just guessed that it was the header paint cooking and nursed the car to my mums(3 mins up the street).
By the time i got there, there was no smoke but still a bit of a smell. I noticed that there was some radiator coolant spray on the manifold and the top radiator hose seemed to have a drip on the engine side. Cant see any problems with the hose or the hose clamp and dont know why its dripping.
Then decided to drive to my home 15 mins away, still a bit of a strange smell in the engine bay and the drips stopped, I guess cause the engine expanded. Any ideas as to what I should do?
New hose? the one on there seems fine, actually thought it was a new hose they put on, clip is real tight.
Was it the paint on the headers that was smoking? or the coolant on the engine?

definitely the paint and it stinks for quite a while so dont stress too much

Congrats on the exhaust upgrade mate. My headers weren't "painted" so I can't comment on that side of things - but there's every chance that the installers would have had grease and oil on their hands which in turn would have left residue on the headers / pipes which will smell as it burns off.

The coolant drip is abit of a worry. Exactly where was it dripping out of?? I'd be checking the level of water in your radiator every day (when the engine is cold) for the next few days just to be sure.

Where'd you get it all installed BTW??

I'll check this morning but I think they overfilled the coolant. Last night when I looked I couldnt see a drip, I post a pic tonight if it starts up again. Got it fitted at bowen hills midas(also know as "bowen hills mufflers" I think).

Did you get the headers replaced ?
If the EGR pipe is not reconnected properly or the gasket isn't fitting properly to the back of the inlet plenum you'll get smoking under the bonnet. :)

it could also be the gaskets seating in properly... when I had my cat converter replaced mine smoked for about an hour. if it continues to smoke, get it checked out.

cheers,

Thanks guys, Yeah I got RPW race headers, the smoke is gone must have been the paint. The radiator hose isnt leaking anymore they must have removed the hose to put in the headers and overfilled the coolant cause its way over full on the coolant dipstick. I want to get chrome tips, the muffler guy said he can cut of the tip which angles down then re-weld it closer to the muffler and add the tip (basically bring it down then out as to not hit the rear plastics, any ideas?
The car is running great sounds awsome and takes off like a bullet. All I need now is EzBoys pod box!

When I got mine done it stank for about a week or so. It goes away though. My headers were painted to but it tends to peal off eventually.

I didnt request to get them painted thats just how rpw sent them, for a minute I thought I'd hit paydirt and they had ceramic coated them by mistake. But it saved me painting them myself.
