My luck with both my 2nd and 3rd gens has gone up ****s creek i tell ya.
Firstly my TF decides to have a bearing collapse in one of the pulleys.
Next, I was driving my KS and both the alternator and ABS lights come up and stay on permanently.. a quick look in the engine bay and the belts are still on, multimeter says no charge to battery.. dang. I am presuming ABS and the alternator run together for them to both stop working at once. $170 to recondition the alternator with new parts... I thought it wasn't TOOO bad.. as I heard these devices can be costly from Mitsu.. but still.. annoying.

There's my rant about my Mitsu's.. :bowrofl:

$170 for a reconditioned alternator... um?...

Oh, you should expect the alternator to go faulty at sometime! Between 160-260k depending on the vehicle etc generally. I would have thought $170 is a bit exy though, or have I and someone I know with a later model been lucky?!

Yer it could be a bit expensive.. unfortunately I have no other choice as I needed to book it in to have it fixed by tomorrow arvo :(. The car has 216k on it.. have only had the car for 12k and this is the first real big problem. (overlooking a split heater hose and water in the oil (which disappeared.. :D)

$170 isn't that bad, reco is basically brand new, it's just been fixed. Brand new alternators are $2-300, i paid $150 for my reco alternator for my 4 cylinder TR and that was the best price i could find.

My ABS Light has been stuck on for a few months now... :S ABS still works, sensors are clean... *shrug*.

Is the ABS related to the alternator? (Because ive got alternator belt problems... i wonder if they're related.... ).

You reckon your pissed off?
i fixed my power steering pump and it ran fine for 400k's
yesterday @ my formal (in the city) i put it in reverse in a carpark & it pisses out fluid everywhere.
so now i have the job AGAIN of fixing it and findout out why it happened.
i am sof**ken pissed off right now you have no idea.

The stuff you've had happen to your car sounds like general wear and tear...this is however pissing me off.

least u could start ur car, i was down in woolongong (kinda south of sydney) where my formal was taken and a few hours b4 my formal started a mate and i were gonna get some stuff for the afterparty, and my car didnt want to start! not battery related, or starter motor... i wish i had my old car back:doubt:

anyways back on the subject i think my brother bought a new alternator for the old car a few years back, and i think it did cost round $200-300... that recon price sounds pretty decent IMO
