Hey Guys,

I had my aircon re-gassed at the end of March. I have not used it since then. Was working ok the last couple of days but now when I turn it on it gets colder then just the normal fan but it's nowhere near as cold as an A/C should be. Does this sound like a simple re-gassing or could it be something more complecated?

Get the aircon mob to check for leaks (free usually), often they put in an agent which glows under a blacklight, showing up where any leaks may be. But they may not have put it in last time.

Apparently it's a good idea to run your aircon for a few minutes every few drives, especially during winter when you don't use it, as the seals get hard and you get leaks if the system isn't used. Running it occasionally keeps the seals conditioned.

Make sure the fan for the aircon behind the radiator turns on.

If not check the relay

Have you got it set to AC the air coming into the car from the outside, or to recirculate the air inside the car.

It will AC the air inside the car much more effectively that if it tries to AC the air coming in from the outside.

if you can m8, have this mod done, its pretty cheap by a good autoelectrician...

when ur reverse gear is selected, have a switch installed that will engage the aircon system while in rev gear(lever).

my old mans pulsar came from the factory with this, so whever you put 2nd gear on, even for those few seconds while u reversed, it pumped the aircon system for those 6months a year when ya might not use it :-)
keeps everything lubricated :-)

one thing to check your aircon is, here in brisbane, the air con in cars tends to not work well after a while, mostly cause the window glass temperatue is nearly untouchable during the day :-) this effects the aircon's ability to cool the recirculated air aswell, appearing as tho its not as cold :-)

Your aircon mechanic did not do a check. Most of them would have suspected a leak and do a check for you for free even.

Have it checked and see how it goes.

Make sure both the a/c radiator fan & the engine radiator fan come on when the a/c is on. If they don't, wire in a relay to turn the engine fan on too. It makes a big difference.:)

Sometimes the water that forms on the air-cond condensor freezes and stops the airflow through the condensor. This makes it ineffective. When you turn the air-cond off for a while, the ice melts, so it works normally when you turn it on again.
