Take the plastic cap off by undoing the 2 bolds to the rocker cover (be carefull, rocker cover very easy to break).

Loosen up the bolds holding the waterpump (6 or so), then turn pump slightly, just enough to take off the belt.

That's it!

I did this the other day.

There is 4 or 5 bolts on the water pump that have to be undone, they look like they are for adjustment (they have some play). I don't think mine had been done for a while so i got a breaker bar (or something else heavy) and had to whack it a few times to get the water pump to rotate so i could get it off.

My old one had a crack almost on every tooth right down to the base...

You only need to really undo the long bolts that are bolted into the engine. There is a long one at the front, bottom, top and back of the pump (just under all the pipes). All the small ones you don't need to undo. If it's anything like the pump in mine too, expect to lose a small amount of coolant as you undo the bolts. With the plastic cover over the water pump pulley, as magna1988tn said, make sure you don't tighten the bolts up too hard when you put it back, as I can say from experience that the back bolt at least can break off and leaves a large hole in the back of the rocker cover, which will forever have the engine leaking oil. I had to buy a whole new rocker cover to fix this.

Other than that, replacing the belt isn't too hard. If you put a new belt on make sure you retension the pump after the engine has been running for a little bit, as the belt will slightly stretch and settle into the pulleys a little bit too as it is moving. Make sure to tighten the long bolts a fair bit, as the pump always seems to find a way of working it's way loose :P

Yeah Dave, I had that same experience, costed me $20 to get another rocker cover, much more than the drive belt :)

Another thing that can go wrong is that the rubber seal is in very bad condition, after tightening the water pump you will sure have a (forever) leak! My water pump was quite bad actually, when rotating, it even broke a bit of that alloy part that enters the engine. Just by changing the drive belt you can suddenly have a few headache leaks and a broken rocker cover!!

Apart from that, it's quite easy to change the belt.

when u put the pump back dont adjust the belt so it is tight, leave some freeplay - an over tight belt will screw your new water pump.
