ok my problem is i have a pioneer 800W amp hooked up to a 15" DVC Polk Sub, but anyway the other day it got really hot and i had my music going while i was in adelaide, i soon noticed that every time i turned the volume up the sub would cut off. went looking for the problem today and found it worked but only just. you could barely feel the vibrations. i tried this on two subs to make sure it wasn't the polk sub. but all the RCA's are plugged in, it has power and the little light, and none of the fuses are blown. WTF should i do?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

have you tried another amp
you might have blown/burnt out something inside the amp when it was getting hot
normally when amps get hot they go into protection mode to stop them being damaged

Hey..

I would say that the cause of the amp getting hot is because you're overloading the amp. The output of the amplifier is obviously not enough to drive your polk sub therefore when your bass kicks in, it's demanding a lot more power out your amp causing the internal components to overload and overheat and in turn cut out.

Make sure that your RMS value matches that of your sub and you should not have a problem

Rob

the amp is producing 360RMS im 75% sure at 2 ohm which im running it at and the sub is 400 RMS but i meant the day (weather) was ****en hot when it started to cut out sorry

yeah a hot day will make the amp heat up alot quicker
and there is a chance for it to over heat with alot of use
is the amp still doing the same thing now?

Most amps will go into protection mode when they overheat. If you've overheated your amp and it still won't work when it's cooled down, i'm afraid you may have fried it.
It wouldn't be too much load on the amp as the cause, unless your amp doesn't support running at 2ohm. It would have just been the case of general use, amp warms up (which is normal), hot day = amp get's too hot and shuts down.
Try removing the fuses on the amp and replacing them. Failing that some home amps (not sure about car amps) have thermal fuses within the casing. If your amp has one it's possible that's blown. Pretty easy to replace if you know your electronics and soldering, but my advice is to take it to someone who can repair amps and see what they say.

ok.. if this is not the cause, then maybe try another set of RCA's and if it keeps doing the same thing... then i'll recommend you to take it to an electronics repairer for a check up of maybe even take it into a pioneer service centre... they should be able to tell you exactly what's wrong with it.

Hope you get it fixed, there's nothing more annoying than having your music cut out while you're cruising..

The sub is cutting out because the amp is going into protection mode.

What type of amp is it? make? model?
