View Full Version : Blocking off EGR pipe in Pacemakers?

Basically Ive got a KE with pacemkers on it, and the KE's 3.5 does not have an EGR pipe.

My Pacemakers do however have an EGR pipe which upon inspection yesterday allows hot exhaust gases to escape directly into my engine bay.

Ive got a photo of it, unfortunately not on this pc, but when I jammed the handle of a screwdriver over the hole hot air stopped escaping into the engine bay, this was of course whilst the engine was off and I was just tinkering. And I know it was coming from the pipe because I could see the haze coming directly from the EGR pipe hole thingy.

My question is: Does anybody have an idea what I can use to plug this hole up so my engine bay doesnt have to deal with exhaust gas/heat???

Well, it obviously needs to be able to take the heat, long term - silver solder/brazing won't cut it, you need something welded there (or screwed). You may be able to get a piece of metal made up to fit (in a circle) and welded. You could also get an EGR manifold/pipework and use this, but this would cost extra.

Unusual that the KE's 3.5 doesn't have EGR, I thought that it was implemented on all 3.5s...

Is the intake manifold blanked off as well?

As a start, to stop you getting carbon monoxide poisoning, can you crimp and fold over the end of the EGR pipe?

As I recall, if the fitting on the headers is like the factory fitting, you may be able to make a small blanking disk and screw the pipe fitting back down with the plate over the hole.

The EGR pipe screws into it doesnt it? get a bolt, high tensile or stainless

Hi Gas_

If I remember correctly someone has replaced your 3.5L plenum with a non-EGR type undrilled one - no problem as they are the same volume

They have also blocked off the pacemaker EGR pipe - otherwise your engine would be sounding like a tractor

I know theres holes drilled in the back of my plenum, unsure how deep they are, Ill try and poke a screwdriver in there 2moro and see whether they go into the manifold.

Heres a pic of my EGR pipe on the pacemakers..........doesnt seem to be blocked off to me as theres clearly gas coming out of the pipe....(excuse the quality, mobile phone camera)

hook up 4 tiny cheap turbo's to it and have the first quad turbo magna :D
