Hey guys,
I will be transporting a ralliart magna front bar from vic to the gold coast in/on my car and was just wondering what your thoughts were on this?
I can just fit it into the actual car on the back seat, but it bends a little so i'm not sure if that'll cause the bar any damage?
There will be 2 people in the car on the way up so i can't just lay the front passenger seat down flat and put it there.
I've been trying to source some roof racks with no luck at all.
I had an idea of boxing it up, then mounting it to my roof (with something underneath to stop it from damaging the paint) by roping through the box (to stop it slipping out) and then looping that round through the inside of the car. Obviously the windows will need to be down a little so if it rains i'm pretty much screwed.
Does anyone else have any other ideas i may not have thought of yet?
*EDIT*
Also i will have my own kit on the car, so i can't just mount it and drive with it on.

nope thought of that too, but the ralliart front bar is huge, it's too high by about half a foot.
SO whats stopping you from just removing your current bar and installing the walliart front bar?
You dont have many options really.
Put it in the back seat and hope it doesnt warp.
Attach it to the car (like bumper bars are meant to be)
Leave it at home and get it sorted when you come backNumber 3 is the option id go with as Melbourne > Brisbane is a bloody long trip to have a bar bent on the back seat or rubbing on the roof..
i reckon you'll be right to wrap it up in plastics, perhaps some sheets of foam between it and your roof... tie it down.. use that plastic string/rope... you can close your windows if it does rain...

Just to clear confusion the bar isn't mine, i'm transporting it for a fellow AMC member.
My car will have MY kit mounted to it (edited my post).
If it was just me going up there'd be no issues.
Looks like i'm going to have to try and get myself some roof racks, but even then i'm not sure how safe that would be.
And yes you're right, it is a long trip so i need to make sure whatever method i use will work.

That was the idea i had, but everyone i ask are 50/50 about it, some say it will work, some say it wont.

roof racks are ur only real option, a bar in the cabin would be a bad idea its a long trip and freeway driving, it might it hamper visability but more importantly (heaven forbid) an accident occur it could be very dangerous and hinder emergency services.
There are currently four different sets of roofracks cheap on ebay-

Hmmmm yeh i didn't even think of that. Only problem with roof racks is i can only find permanent ones (only looked in autobarn though).
I've put the bar up in the for sale section now so i might just cut my losses.
Thanks for your help guys :).

The problem with that is you are going to get alot of vibration happening as you drive along.. Over a period of 20 hours that constant vibration is going to cut into the top coat of your paint whether its foam, tape or rope..

Pack and Send can send it to Brisbane from Melbourne on their fragile goods truck.
From Melb to Sydney a front bar was about $120 INSURED, wouldn't imagine it would be that much more getting it to Brisbane.
Otherwise I would recommend packing it well in bubble wrap and remove the back seat out of your car.
Final option would be to acquire/hire a car that would take the bar with ease - I was about to go down to Melbourne and recover my acquired VRX bar with a falcon station wagon hire car (get them for $50 a day on the company rate).

Postage isn't really worth it.
Even with the back seat removed, it still bends.
I need my car while i'm on the gold coast, so hiring a car is out of the question.
I'll also check out ebay for the roof racks.
*EDIT*
I need roof racks in vic. Also 1 of those is permanent anyway.

No tow bar :(.
It's ok guys, the only options left for me is to sell the bar and get my money back, OR get non-permanent roof racks for less than what postage is.
Cheers for all your help, thread doesn't really need to be open anymore :).

if your passenger sat behind the drivers seat in the back, you could then lay the passenger seat down..
could this work?
not much fun for the passenger though,

Yeh that would work, but i'm a big bloke and need the front seat pretty much all the way back to be comfortable driving, and my mate isn't short (prob about 6'2"), so on a 24 hour journey, not a good idea :).
