Hey there,

About 6 - 8 months ago i lost my only set of keys for my car (96 TE). I bought 2 new keys but yesterday i found my old set. I went and tried them in my car and it wouldnt start, yet the 2 newer sets of keys still work fine. This old set of keys worked fine up until i lost them.

So my question is, if a key is not used for a certain period of time do they need reprogramming?? Or is my old key just useless now.

cheers

The old set can still be used ..from memory i think you have to program them all at the same time ..Just follow the instructions in your manual or do a search in the forums there have been plenty of threads on the subject..

I thought only mitsubishi could reprogram keys?

It's possible that because you lost your keys, mitsubishi gave the new sets a new code.
If you want your old set to work, i believe you'll have to take all 3 keys back to mits so they can program them.

Spot on. Terrence is referring to the programming of the keyless entry remotes.

If you are referring to the remote for TE then either do a search on how to reprogram them.

From my memory is turn your key on off position 3 times and you will see your indicators flash, meaning it is in program mode

press first remote,
and next remote within 5 sec etc.

Dealers charge $50.00 for the remote plus you have to pay for this programming which just take under 2 mins.

Nah i dont have remotes just keys. i dont think i will worry about getting it reprogrammed as i have 2 keys that work fine.i cant believe they charge 50 bucks for the 2 mins of programming. I was disgusted the first time i saw them do it.

lol , I was lucky, the dealers I met the first time show it to me for the cost of the remote.
No extra charge.

It was a second dealer I went to which demanded that you have to book in the car to program the remote which I was shocked. I just walked off.

The remote is not solid so take care of it.
