Hey guys,
I recently blew up my 2nd pair of Alpine Type S 12's wooferz, lookin to replace them with something in the same quality/loudness ball park.
was just wondering if this amp (http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/amplifier_10.asp) would be powerfull enough to get a good sound out of a single alpine Type R? If not which alpine amp would be most appropriate?
How would a single type R volume / quality compare to 2x type-S subs?
Thanks in advance :P

Whats your budget?
What RMS wattage is the sub?
I would look at the Response (Jaycar) amps before the one you mentioned. The 800W should do the job perfectly, and not kill the bank!

Type-R = 500W RMS
i have a type R with an alpine mono block sounds good to me.
i think its 600WRMS
it also came in an alpine box

Budget would help us a bit better. There are much louder subs out there than Alpine for the same $$$. Most will sound better to.

Well I wouldn't want to stretch any more than 600 dollars.

$600 for the amp or $600 for the sub and amp? Does that budget include a sub box?

The Response 800W monoblock would fit your budget at $400 and cope with it fine then with a bit of headroom.
This would leave you a bit to make a sub box as well.

600 for the amp, 4-500 for the sub, I already have a single 12 box and double 12 box

I'm surprised no ones asked WHY he blew his old subs up?
So i'm going to ask, why?
Just if you get new subs and they blow again, there's something wrong with your current setup that needs attention. I've pushed my subs hard and haven't blown any yet.

I am not sure exactly, they lasted close to a year and then one night as soon as i got into the car I instantly put them on full and my friend had been messing with my EQ and I blew one sub. After that I couldn't cope without bass so i kept cranking it anyway and the other sub blew.
I figure If I got a sub that could take alot more power then I wouldnt have the same problem?

Your mate probably changed the gain settings on the amp to make it "louder", but all this does is put your system out of tune and makes it dangerous for the subs.
Throwing a more powerful sub isn't going to solve anything if the system still isn't tuned properly. The amp could be clipping which would kill your subs in no time.

Nah he didnt mess with the amp settings, just the equaliser on the head unit, I have changed them back to default since then.

Hmmm i'd still get someone to tune your system properly, last thing you want is to turn it up too loud and blow another sub.

Hmm, Is there any informative websites you could recommend that would explain exactly how to tweak my amp / head unit properly?
I am more interested in learning as I go. I don't have a lot of faith in my local car audio 'experts' heh.

I ended up getting this http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/amplifier_13.asp cheap so would that be more suitable for a Alpine type R?
If not what is a good sub to suit that amp, under 500?
Thanks in advance!

Hahaha THANKYOU! About time somebody posed the question, I mean thats now 4 subs you've killed.
Perosnally that would throw me off Alpine subs altogether. I wouldn't buy a product if it had blown up on me TWICE now.
Look for Hertz subs for loudness, maybe some good Earthquakes, Infinity maybe? You need to move out of the regular car audio realm. Alpine and more commercial brands like that are good at everything, but thats all they are, good. If you want to get the best sound, you've gotta change up the brands, and look at some of the lesser known brands (albeit they are more costly). They concentrate on one facet of car audio, and therefore, usually excel at that facet.
Crossfire makes good amps. Tried them?

Solution:
DD M1a monoblock
Hertz HXS 380 sub.
I'm pretty sure that mono block has a clipping indicator on it... perfect for not blowing up things! :D

Has anyone tried Blaupunkt amps? (The Amp originally posted by 'hardkore_macdude') ?

I've seen a few posts in the audio section that suggest Jaycar/Response Amps.
Just wondering how they compare to the more expensive brands like Alpine, Soundstream, etc.
If two mates with identical setups bought a Jaycar and an Alpine Amp.
What would the Alpine buyer say?
1. Like wow, that was worth the extra cash! This thing rocks and was worth the double price tag. :D
2. Hmmm, not that much of a difference. But at least I've got a better quality amp. I hope.
3. Man, I got ripped off, yours sounds just as good. :doubt: But I have an Alpine sticker on my window :P
