View Full Version : Sump Drain Valve (Fumoto)
Hey guys, I was just thinking if anyone has bothered trying a sump plug drain valve. I know with me that it would be handy since I only have a hand jack and its a pain in the butt come service time to drain the oil and since the front's on superlows it takes EXTRA time to jack the damn thing up..
So anyone tried/heard any good/bad about these??

Good idea in theory, however I dont think the crap thats sitting at the bottom of the sump would be able to flow thru it as it would be below the level of the drain plug.
........have to see/try one to know for sure tho.

Wow thats kool!
Yeh good in theory... replaces drain plug. But just imagine going over a bump or running something over and this thing gets damaged, smashed, or turned on by accident.
Hehe, also dont tell anybody you're installing one... somebody might decide to play an ill practical joke on you.

It comes down to a risk based exercise.
You have a valve sticking out the bottom of the sump that introduces a new potential leak source and may be inadventantly damaged cause engine to completely dump its oil. vs. the time it takes to undo the sump plug once every 6 months.
I just can't see it as being worth while.:doubt:
Edit: Invest your money in a good trolley jack and stands.

Have used one for about six weeks now. They're not bad, handy if you need to access your oil regularly e.g. oil sampling.
Whether it's a good choice for you depends on the location of your sump plug and how low your car is. Also driving style - if you do a lot of track time or something where there's a chance you'll off the car and end up scraping the undercarriage be aware that it does stick out slightly.
As you can see there's a clamp fitting you can put on the valve to reduce the likelihood of it accidentally being dislodged. Plus it's a 2-step release valve...
Anyway I reckon it's not a bad thing saves me a bit of time. I still check on it fairly regularly to make sure it's all okay and nothing's wrong. Like everyone said it is slightly more riskier than standard sump plug but your call at the end of the day.

The guys on supra forums did a group buy, and most had issue's with leaking, general consensus was they aren't worth it.

So may I know how this is going to stop you by having to Jack your car?
IMO if your car is low, wouldn't you need to jack it up to put the oil container to catch the oil anyway?
Just a thought.
It only save you time from using tools that all I can see.
